Nomads on ANT1

Just out of interest, is anyone else on here watching Nomads on the ANT1 channel? For those who haven't heard of it, it is a team game show consisting of increasingly difficult obstacle courses. It's the same teams every night with members voted out by the public each week, resulting in one lucky pe...

For Linux users, this seems to work OK with Chromium (Linux version of Chrome).

Does he still own Sunshine Radio? If so then perhaps people might want to review their listening preferences.

Re: Paphos residents fear landslide

I'm pleased that someone is taking notice of this issue. I happened to be at Muse restaurant the other day and noticed a fenced off area of the car park that had cracks running through it. I guess this is the restaurant mentioned in the article, as it is the Mousallas area. The cracks had been fille...

Hardly graffiti! This is an artwork. Hopefully nobody will remove them, as they were painted with permission of the municipality.

Re: Preservation of savings

If you are worried about UK banks yet want a safe place for your cash, why not try offshore in the Channel Islands or Isle of Man. They have British banks but are outside the UK.

Re: Cyprus Russia even closer ties?

My point was that when Russia annexed the Crimea it was with the blessing of the population there. They wanted to be part of Russia again as they were prior to being forced into Ukraine in 1954. Cyprus having a defence agreement with Russia isn't surprising. After all, it has such agreements with ne...

Re: Cyprus Russia even closer ties?

Not links, just friends from Russia and Ukraine who express their views in conversation. I have no strong views on the Ukraine situation, other than a belief that it is the right of a population to determine it's own future (I am reminded of Scotland and Catalonia in this respect). You may recall th...

Re: Road traffic Chaos in the Old Town this morning and the new Markideon

I like the new look old town. I had a walk around last weekends and loved the new murals that have sprung up down the side-streets. I also like the theatre, the fountain, and the wide pavements etc. I am also pleased to see "cafe culture" springing up everywhere. Go have a look around late...

Re: small change machine at main Bank of Cyprus

I put all my small coins in a pot, and when it is full I take it to a charity shop. They are happy to receive it and I get to feel good about myself. I recommend it.

Re: Cyprus Russia even closer ties?

Why should we trust a nation that openly empire-builds (eg Crimea, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, etc.) by illegal annexation? Britain had the greatest empire the world has ever known. Are you implying that all those "subject nations" joined it voluntarily? The fact is that the majority of thos...

Re: Extra immigration checks

The fact is that the police can ask for your yellow slip at any time, whether you are an EU citizen or not. Having an EU passport allows you into Cyprus for up to 3 months. Staying longer without a yellow slip (or a visa) is an offence and subject to a considerable fine. Therefore it is reasonable f...

Re: Family forced to sit beside pool of sick on Jet2 flight

Why not just stand in the isle and refuse to sit down? They can't take off if you do and would have to clean it up. The smell would have affected other passengers as well, if it was as they say, so there would have been general support I would have thought.

Re: Cypriot ID Card

The majority of Brits here have yellow slips. To get a Cyprus ID card you have to have, or be eligible for, a Cyprus passport. You can hold a British passport at the same time. Domestic workers used to have a pink slip (similar to the yellow one), but now they have a card instead. Perhaps the yellow...

Just a point. They are Citizens Service Centres (i.e. government service "one stop shops"), not Citizens Advice Bureaus (independent advice centres) which are a UK charity and don't exist in Cyprus.

This shop closed some time ago, but is still full of stock. Does anyone know what is happening and who is a contact?

The shop is in a road parallel to TOTK, behind the Damon Hotel.

Hi Keith, There is a lot we don't know about you, of course, so our advice has to be based on assumptions. I don't want to poor water on your plans, but I also don't want to see you living on the beach relying on handouts like some Brits have. The way I read your posts, the 25k you mention is a lump...

Re: Man dies in the sea off Paphos

A key point is that there is not a sign saying "don't swim", only signs on how to swim if you are caught in a rip current. This implies it is OK to swim if you know what you are doing. I know there are ropes and red flags, but a sign saying "don't swim" is surely something that s...
