Government cancels all operations in Cyprus ...

My wife was due to have her cataracts removed on Tuesday in Paphos. Yesterday her consultant ophthalmologist telephoned her and told her that the Cyprus government has cancelled all operations with immediate effect. He explained he did not understand their decision but, as a result of this decree, m...

Re: Vaccination slots for 71+ open up on Tuesday 22nd February

I went online at 07.59 this morning and everything went smoothly. The only difficulty I had was that the names of the vaccination venues were all in Greek. I copied each one and used Google Translate to find Polis Hospital. The earliest date was Friday and I chose 11.00 - all confirmed. The only pro...

Re: What is going on with these age related Covid vaccines?

I asked the administrator at the clinic we attend to see whether she could book my wife in for vaccination. I called in this morning and was told she would be vaccinated at Polis Hospital next Wednesday. Apparently the system was rather flaky when she booked and somehow we did not get a confirmation...

A film recommendation ...

During the wet weather we have started watching films, with the log burner keeping us lovely and warm, in the late afternoon. It normally falls to me to suggest a film and I came across a 2017 film I had never heard of. It is called “Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri”. What an enthralling fi...

Kindle Paperwhite query

After many years of use, my darling wife’s Kindle has bitten the dust and I would like to buy her another one. I have not found an outlet in Cyprus which sells the 2020 Paperwhite version (although I am happy to be pointed in the right direction). She could use the Kindle app on her iPad but the act...

Re: GESY Opthamologist

I took my wife to the Eye and Laser Clinic in Paphos and she saw Dr. Savvas Hadjiraftis. She was very pleased with the consultation and the barrage of tests. Nothing was rushed and all was explained. The end result is that she has cataracts in both eyes and will have the first operation on Monday at...

Re: Cyta alternative

Just to complete the tale ... we decided to ditch Cyta and contacted Ecotech in Polis. They were with us within a day, put antenna on our roof and sorted out the router. We were connected within minutes. We received 35 Mb download for the same price as 30 Mb from Cyta. For the last four months there...

Blocking calls on Cyta mobile

My wife wants to block a couple of specific numbers on her Cyta mobile. Is there an easy way to do this? Is it even possible?

Exchanging Driving Licences

Exchanging Driving Licences ... today’s latest news. We went to the Transport Department today and this is what we found. Firstly the documents required include (if you are married) both your original marriage certificate and an affidavit from the Paphos District Court if (as seems to happen) the wi...

Re: Affidavit query?

Just back from Paphos ... we found the court building and I dropped Ann off and went to park. At the door to the main building a very helpful man directed Ann to the correct room to buy a €4 stamp. She then came out of the main doors and turned right where there were two windows. At one of them a ra...

Re: Affidavit query?

I understood that it is only possible to exchange UK licence for a Cypriot licence at the Ministry of Transport Office on Mesogi Avenue in Paphos. I think the OP needs proof as to his wife’s residency, hence the need to get an affidavit Yes, the stupid thing is all our bills are in my name. But man...

Affidavit query?

We need to have an affidavit stamped so that we can exchange our UK driving licences for Cypriot ones, as all the bills we have are in my name - and not my wife’s. I have been told we need to go to the Paphos District Court for this to happen. In the UK we would have gone to a Commissioner of Oaths ...
