Re: How is Cyprus Doing With the Vaccine Roll Out ?

The Republic of Cyprus has vaccinated 1.2% of the population according to latest figures , slightly behind the larger EU countries and well behind the other smaller E.U. Members . Israel is still well ahead of the worldwide field at 38% . More bad news for we EU citizens . Stella Kyriakides the Gree...

Side deals being done by everyone , quite rightly in a pandemic environment . You want it here are the terms is the way the pharmaceutical companies can and do operate .

Re: AstraZeneca

Early Feb for approval by the EU . Like the U.S. FDA I understand they were unhappy about the accidental issuing of a half measure of the second vaccine jab instead of the full dose even though the results turned out to be more beneficial to the patient . They have unlike the UK asked for the tests ...

How is Cyprus Doing With the Vaccine Roll Out ?

Looking at the EU countries a favourite phrase that always featured on my school reports comes to mind. Could try harder .

Re: Cyprus seeks Israel Vaccine help

Let’s hope the reports are correct. Israel ordered double it’s needs to make sure if one vaccine was not approved they would still have enough. The EU didn’t and the French vaccine has failed in it’s trials . The EU have also not yet approved the AstraZeneca vaccine hence the hopelessly sluggish vac...

Re: Problem trying to get vaccine appointment

Perhaps HIC could enlighten us how his “kind” Doctor made his appointments given that the patient is supposed to be phoning . There are 33,000 people on Cyprus over 80 and about the same over 70 according to Eurostat so given the way the EU is dribbling out the vaccine it will be a very long wait fo...

Re: UK Driving Licence valid under deal

There is no USA drivers Licence HIC ! Each state has it’s own licence just like the EU . Some will exchange a UK licence without a test most will require you to take a new test , some just the theory test and others a full test including driving. The Ohio test I took with an instructor was a real wo...

Re: Vaccine advisory information from the health ministry

I would imagine quite a few aren’t willing to wait, if vaccines become available on the open market especially if this becomes a very long drawn out wait because the EU failed to order enough. Seems we only got 5000 on the shipment met by the Health Minister and his press corps on Sunday . “ The pro...

Re: Vaccine advisory information from the health ministry

Looks like it’s going to be slow going , this from the Financial Mirror “Based on the national vaccination plan for COVID-19, the total amount of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines available for Cyprus is 391,637 (divided into 2 doses per person) until the third quarter of 2021. A quantity of 48,955 will ...

Has the EU bought too little Vaccine?

I must admit I was surprised to see ministers here talking about late summer for the majority to get vaccines . Now this report in Der Spiegle and The Times of London . ‘ The EU appears to have bought too little, too late and at times from the wrong producers. And it appears that it turned down hund...

How HongKong Reacted to Increased Covid Cases

It’s always interesting to see how other countries deal with the virus especially ones successful in controlling the outbreak. Hong Kong (pop. 7M) having ticked along with zero or single figure daily cases for several months , a few days ago saw an uptick in cases to the low 20s then yesterday to 73...

Did I Miss a New Rule ?

From In Cyprus news : “ most fines went out for violation of set  curfews and not wearing a mask in outdoor areas but also while in the car where it is mandatory when a driver is not all alone.“ So my wife and I need to wear masks while in the car though we live together and sleep together. Perhaps ...

Times of London this morning Greece 21.2 Cyprus 23.7 U.K. 18.6 Italy 9.3 Spain 115.7 France 41.2 Portugal 25.7 Germany 16.3 and best performer Hungary on 3.6 So one presumes that had we signed an air bridge deal with the UK then we’d have been facing the chop this week . I must admit I’ve forgotten ...

At the moment they are all in the Limassol District hence the focus on random testing there this week. It is...

Taking Back Their Island

We drove into to Paphos yesterday for the first time since we picked up our turkey from Butcher Boy , yes that long ago ! What a joy it was. I know the economy is wrecked etc but to park outside M&S and then saunter about peaceful non traffic ladened streets , to glance in to local cafes filled ...

And, of course, nearer to home the North of Cyprus , no new cases since April 19th 108 cases in total and all now released from hospital with only 2 deaths ( both German tourists at the start of the outbreak ) . The most successful country in the Mediterranean region and once the new runway is open ...
