Re: Solar fairy lights
We have a similar set up using Jumbo lights and they have been working for about 18 months now. Four individual little lights as opposed to a string though. Periodically, if one looks as though it has had it, we just wipe the dust off the sensors and that sorts the problem out.

Considering how small the island actually is, it has an amazing number of archaeological sites. An archaeologist's dream.

Re: Hunting Season!
I posted this comment in the article about poachers being fined, but here is probably a better place. As I wander around the countryside geocaching I see shotgun cartridges everywhere, even next to No Hunting signs. I suspect some of these heroic hunters probably think that the signs have been put t...

Re: Big fines imposed for poaching
As I wander around the countryside geocaching I see shotgun cartridges everywhere, even next to No Hunting signs. I suspect some of these heroic hunters probably think that the signs have been put there as somewhere to lean their guns, as they regale each other with stories about how they manually t...

Re: Doing what Brits abroad do best...
What a strange comment mouse. I am a part - timer, although I think swallow is an apt description, and we have fulfilling lives both here and in the UK and I suspect the same applies to all of those who are the same as us. Now that we are retired we spend 6 months here and 6 in the UK, but in the 12...

Worthy of note - The DPP in Northern Ireland who instigated this witch hunt was the solicitor of choice for IRA members during "the Troubles". An interesting article:

Re: Paphos Chamber wants airport expanded
Of all the many airports I have flown from, Paphos is the only airport that I have seen them at. However, I suspect they exist elsewhere as well. When they were introduced, I seem to remember it was to ease crowding in the Departure area, but they seem to use them most if not all the time now. Last ...

Re: "Microsoft" scam - again.
I had one of these calls a few months ago and told the caller that I was a retired Director of IT and was more than capable of sorting out any issues for myself. Her script couldn't cope with that and she kept as it for ages whilst I wound her up just for the fun of it.

Re: Alleged British Atrocities?
I lived in Nicosia during the late 50's and can remember going to school with grenade nets on the bus windows, and armed guards on the bus. One day the nets did what they were there for and a grenade bounced off but failed to explode in any event. Had the net not been there, and the grenade not a du...

Re: Man caught driving with toddler on his lap
A couple of weeks ago I saw a man on a very big motorbike with a toddler sat in front of him, practically lying on the bike's tank. The kiddie, who was probably about 2, had a crash helmet on, that dwarfed the rest of his body, but was just wearing a t-shirt and shorts so he would have been shredded...

Re: Electricity Bill
We were cut off some years ago, by accident as the electricity people pulled the main fuse thinking that they were pulling a neighbours in the same complex who had gone into arrears with their payments. We were in the UK and our friends arrived and there was no power which was all a bit embarrassing...

Re: Contactless cards.
I think the text message when we (or someone else) use our BoC card is a great innovation, and one we hope our UK bank introduces sometime soon and, for the little it costs to protect the cards in my pocket, or my wife's handbag, it is money well spent. However, since the text system was introduced ...

I never realised that the roads and tracks out there are as good as they are until I saw your video Dominic. So far we have not ventured beyond the Last Castle and Lara Beach, so when I get our lightning fried car back we need to be a bit more adventurous. We haven't nearly fallen into any ravines l...
