Re: Fabrica Hill Aerial walkway

We are hoping that once the walkway has been opened we will be able to see, relatively close up, what appear to be ongoing excavations of the Fabrica Hill site.

Re: Dermatologist or plastic surgeon ?

From personal experiences, I think that your first port of call should be a dermatologist. Depending on what they decide, they will be able to recommend a plastic surgeon to you. My assessment and subsequent surgery was in the UK so I can't recommend anyone here.

Re: Police in plea to road users to ‘change mentality’ after 6 fatalities in 10 days

I agree with all the sentiments expressed so far. However, whilst the appalling driving by some Cypriots is a major issue, a lot of Ex-Pats leave a lot to be desired as well. Some seem to have a "If you can't beat them, join them" attitude, and some of the really elderly ones are dangers t...

PaphosAl (RIP) would have really enjoyed following this thread. He always seemed to be happiest when he had technical things to follow, and to check that the right piece of kit was being used for a job.

Re: This is what happens when psuedo-science trumps science.

I worked for Public Health England before retirement. As well as dealing with current problems, they obviously have to work towards dealing with problems anticipated in the future. A particular concern was the effect on so many people missing their MMR's once they become very elderly, when many of t...

Re: Travel Insurance

We have our travel insurance via Lloyds Bank and pay about £170 extra per year to extend any trip up to 90 days. What we do find restrictive though is our household insurance for our UK property. 60 days maximum unoccupied on any one occasion, and the one year we decided to extend it was very expens...

Re: Secure way to send a package to the UK

I would be wary of using recorded delivery. Things may have changed in the years since I worked with the UK post, but recorded deliveries were just mixed in with ordinary post, with no special security measures, and just signed for at the point of delivery. In recent years I have received odd record...

Re: Driving in your “Dotage”

There will always be some fit and agile people who are capable, perhaps, of driving later in life than most. However, at his very advanced age the D of E should not be on public roads. My grandfather kept driving into his early 90's and just ignored all advice to stop until he ran into the back of a...

If you do get stuck you could always ask at Paphos Zoo where they keep a lot of different birds, including parrots. Might even come back riding its own little bike!

Re: New labels coming to petrol pumps

I take your point HiC but I was referring to someone thinking up the need to standardise labelling of pumps across the EU. Perhaps I should have explained myself a little more clearly. It will inevitably cause a lot of confusion if these new labels are given too much prominence. Leaded or Unleaded l...

Without wishing to get too political, no wonder the EU is in danger of imploding. Some jobswortn actually thought that up, and b a lot more of them agreed to it.

Re: Tourists spent $3 billion in Cyprus

It's quite an impressive total when considering the relative size of Cyprus compared to many European countries. Will be interesting to compare in about 5 years time if many of the small swimming pools have to close down. Flying to Cyprus is not particularly cheap compared to some other destinations...

Re: National Anthems

This is probably heresy but, I find our anthem to be totally dreary and dated when compared to some. I think the days are long gone when we should be expected to laud our Royal Family, particulary as they have so many foreign roots, and would far rather have a stirring anthem that focuses on our cou...

What bug?

Trying to identify a bug. I pulled the toilet paper roll this morning and about 10 little black bugs shot off, at speed, in every direction. They were probably just under a quarter inch in length, and came out from under the toilet paper cover. Fortunately, a tin of bug spray was in reach so they di...
