Re: Paphos signs contact for "smart" parking system

I think that the money for all the Mayors new schemes for upgrading Paphos to become a "smart city" comes mainly from EU grants.... I think that the huge amounts of money which has and is still being spent to fund these enhancements couldn't be afforded by the Cy Govt or Paphos town funds ...

Re: Unknown flight arrivals to Paphos

Noise from military aircraft over my part of Chloraka is very rare and only when there is a short term military exercise. I don't find it a problem. I think that the noise vehicles make on a busy main road is much more tiring. Any aircraft is traveling much faster, is always over the sea and the noi...

Re: Paphos signs contact for "smart" parking system

With the "old system" there were no such problems when you are in a "pay and display" carpark. Give me cash every tine! Especially here in Paphos with a ticket costing €1 gives parking for 4 hours!

Re: Cyprus Driving Licence Second Renewal

When I renewed my license last June, I had to wait a week for the first available appointment. When I duly turned up with the documentation, I was told that my license would take 3 weeks. I pointed out that my old license would have expired after another week. So they gave me a piece of paper to con...

Re: Man slapped with €11,000 fine for killing two turtle doves

Max, thanks for posting this information. But I don't know their latin or greek names? Which one is also known as Turtle Dove? I thought from reading articles by Bird life that the Turtle Dove was also protected? Anyway the so called 'sport' of killing birds to satisfy the demand for Ambelipoulia sh...

Re: Expected

Yes, I read that too. But Paphos seems to have less rather than more testing stations. My nephew's children are living in Spain. They also need to wear a mask at school. In Cyprus there were a number of cases of Covid, in schools, before Easter, where both teachers and pupils were affected. As the m...

No sympathy for the man concerned. The Turtle Dove is protected species and should not be killed. Please don't delete my post.

Re: Cyprus Driving Licence Second Renewal

Chaddy, the Citizens Office is my first choice. The Transport Dept can be a pain, long queues and slow service. Not overly helpful. Maybe others have had better experiences though!

I have the sticker on mine. It also says that my vaccination was at the Paphos General.
So hopefully all is OK!

Re: Cyprus Driving Licence Second Renewal

Chaddy where have you been? You will probably need to make 2 appointments. One to see your personal doctor for health check, and signed medical form.
You also need to make an appointment for the Citizens advice centre. You can ring them first.

Re: Paphos signs contact for "smart" parking system

Even before the advent of this new hi tech parking scheme, M&S Foods in Paphos has parking meters outside it. When the traffic warden is about, I've seen him putting tickets on cars which aren't displaying a ticket from the machine!

Re: Paphos signs contact for "smart" parking system

Polemi Ian, In answer to your last post. No, of course not. But at the same time huge vehicles in small psrking spaces can easily take up more than one space. When my husband was alive, we had two cars. We seldom took the LWB Pajero to supermarkets. Instead we usually took my small car which was eas...

Re: Old Town Statue vandals Have Struck Again

Yes, there are unfortunately. Remember the mindless moron who went along pulling a branch off all the young trees which are planted near to the Old Post Office, near the Market... Fortunately, I think he was captured by some street cameras, identified and appeared in court.

Re: VE Day

Yes, I agree with the previous poster. My parents generation made many personal sacrifices, and they served in the Royal Navy or the RAF. during much of WW11. My uncle was on the Prince of Wales, in Singapore when she was bombed by the Japanese. Although sucked down by the ship as she sank, miraculo...

Re: Paphos signs contact for "smart" parking system

Yes, I agree with what you say about the way some people park their car using several parking spaces. This is particularly bad in some supermarket car parks .Paps on Ellados Rd have fairly small parking spaces, quite unsuitable for huge duocabs, and the newish huge SUV's which some use to for the su...

Re: VE Day

My best remembrance of VE day was the year my husband and I were on a holiday which started in Hong Kong and involved train travel to Moscow, via Beijing, Mongolia and Irkutsk .. an amazing trip in the days of the Communist regime. We had forgotten about VE day, but as we entered the restaurant car ...

Re: Paphos signs contact for "smart" parking system

I have an old Nokia phone which I use locally. The coin in the slot is my preferred option,.. The EU is obviously providing enough cash for those in command in Paphos, to indulge in these very expensive new technologies.. I would prefer them to spend some money on maintaining past projects, such as ...
