Re: Nicola Sturgeon Hanging On!

Smudger, I was simply pointing out, like others, that Bobbies on the beat are what is needed and that cuts make prevention and solving of crime more difficult. You quoted a case, great. As to my diatribes which you think are anti this and that. There has been no stronger supporter of the NHS, Educai...

Geoffrey, you come on here for the argument, as this obviously appeals to you - yet it's a Paphos forum, you are based in Varosha.....?

The trust many of the local shopkeepers show.... I have purchased items and been told to come back and pay later! From people I've never met before....

Re: Cyprus Tax arrangements

So, for talking sake (and many thanks everyone for the info) if a person was to pay tax in Cyprus and take a large dividend and pay 5% on it, even if they moved back to the UK, it is already taxed income? The UK could not subsequently tax it again?

Re: Paphos airport cabbies "ripping off punters"

Taxi rates are published, it is the law to have a metered ride, so it seems to me the solution is simple...enforce the law! I am sorry but Paphos taxi drivers are generally rude and aggressive, and as the First Impression for those arriving arriving via Paphos airport do the town no favours. Agreed...

Re: Fatal motor boat accident at the Blue Lagoon

I have hired boats from Latchi, twice or 3 times and from Paphos a couple of times. Latchi is cheaper and I was escorted out of the harbour once, but not other times. I have driven boats previously in Florida, but I have no certificates or much experience. I am rather cautious, so certainly would no...

Re: Greek Extremists

Let me ask you a question, Dominic: If you were in Belfast would you refer to being in 'Northern Ireland', 'Ulster' or 'The North of Ireland'? Depending on who you were talking to, it would be an important point... It isn’t Ulster.... unless you expect them to include counties in Eire.... Northern ...

Re: Cyprus Tax arrangements

A slight deviation.... Am I correct in saying, that someone resident in Cyprus, over a certain age, only pays 5% tax? What is the age? If, for talking sake, they owned a business in the UK that they liquidated/closed, would they then be liable for UK or Cyprus tax? I know this needs specialist help,...

Re: Nicola Sturgeon Hanging On!

Devil, I didn't get the impression that it was a case of pushing the boat out for a high profile case, more a situation of the technology is there for use by all forces at all times. It may have been that as the SIO Steve Fulcher then assembled specialists in these particular areas into his overall...

Re: Greek Extremists

There is nothing politically correct about using language that doesn't offend the local population. It is just good manners. Let me ask you a question, Dominic: If you were in Belfast would you refer to being in 'Northern Ireland', 'Ulster' or 'The North of Ireland'? Depending on who you were talki...

Re: Fatal motor boat accident at the Blue Lagoon

At the end of the day, Tourism will be protected and no sanctions affecting tourism. Many people visit Latchi to hire boats. If they impose strict penalties, costs will ris accordingly and tourism will suffer. I’m not supporting that at all, but it’s what Cyprus does....

Re: Nicola Sturgeon Hanging On!

It's a relevant point re technology uses to play a part in crime prevention and conviction.... However, I do know the police are very short in numbers to monitor anything digital and most CCTV images are inadmissible due to poor quality. They are used more to establish a persons position to collabor...

Re: Arguments on Other Forums

We're all different and have different views and opinions on things. I think what sets this forum aside from the others is the ability for members to be able to post their own, differing opinions on a subject and for an interesting discussion and exchange of views to follow. Rather than for it to d...

Re: Cyprus Gas Exploration

Israel, I am sure, will have a part to play in this, as potentially will Egypt. A pipeline is needed, unless someone were to invest billions in a Liquefying plant (that Turkey has) and both Egypt and Israel might want this pipeline to go ahead and it would have to run through Cypriot waters. Turkey'...

Re: Possible opening of Varosha by the Turks?

Works in Ireland? What, after decades of troubles and more strife every day? Unable to form any local government at Stormont? It will also be interesting to see where the £1bn (or £1.5bn) gets spent. If you look at infrastructure such as motorways, dual carriageways and train lines, almost all of it...
