Re: Electric Wall Heaters

Kansas, like you, we set ours at 2 and even down to 1 on mild winters nights when the temp gets above 21c. We are thinking of getting pv panels here in the UK as we have been shocked by the price of electricity and gas. Paying £0.40 per kwh for electricity and £0.11 per kwh for gas. Spending between...

Re: Electric Wall Heaters

We have been cosy and warm this winter using just 2 LG air con units, with our pv panels. We have a 24btu inverter unit in the dining room and a smaller 18btu unit in the lounge. Since the end of December, we have put the larger unit on at 3pm and run it until around 8pm. Dining area around 22c. The...

Re: Tougher rules coming for cyclists

On Tuesday I rode from Anarita to Sea Caves and back. I posted about my ride on the Paphos Life facebook page. I always use the cycle lanes as I am a plodder. Ride took me along the B6. Don't go via the lanes now, as this time last year whilst riding with my daughter, we were accosted by a free runn...

Re: New ‘historic’ shelters for hikers in tourism upgrade

Be interesting to see how the E4 will cross the new Paphos Polis road. Wonder if they will build a footbridge, like they did in the UK for the Pennine Way crossing the M62 :D

Re: Our Pool Heater.

Cornelia, I would think it depends where you are situated. We are near the coast and and the pool gets full sun all day and is sheltered by the house at night. Normal winters night, we lose 2c but on a colder night 3c. Today we got the temperature up to 28c. It has taken 6 days and 250kwh to get the...

Re: Our Pool Heater.

Jeba, ours is an 8x4 pool, standard pool put in by the builders going from around 1 metre in depth to just over 2 metres. No insulation but a solar cover, which means on a normal winters night we lose 2 degrees and during the day, with the pool heater running in daylight hours, gain 3c. If it is ver...

Re: New ‘historic’ shelters for hikers in tourism upgrade

There is supposed to be a long distance footpath, part of the European Footpaths, the E4. Try following it. Even the bits where I have local knowledge, eg from the airport to Epskopi, would be almost impossible for a tourist coming out of the airport to negotiate. Google E4 maps, Cyprus and you get ...

Our Pool Heater.

For anyone interested in reading this fairly long post, here is a breakdown of the costs of running our heated swimming pool from 19th October to 10th January, when we turned off the heater. A few people have messaged me about the costs, so here is a breakdown. The heat pump heater was on for 74 day...

Re: Paphos harbour carfree waterside promenade

Remember the waiter at Ma Bianca telling us that one car goes past around 30 times each weekend night. The present set up with cars was dangerous for families with young children as the road was not visible but just part of the paved promenade. Will be much safer.

Re: Webcam @ Elean

Much safer when it is pedestrianised. The original mayor wanted it closed off to traffic most of the time. Locals will cruise round and round in the summer showing off their cars. Remember one of the waiters at Ma Bianca telling us one car had been round 30 times. Would also be better for the shops ...

Re: Can you drive into My Mall Limassol from the back?

Good advise Kilo. Using the highway, as it is called here, or, as we call it the motorway and we think it is a lot safer than the B roads. Yes, you can get into the Mall rear car park. Just drive past the mall, going towards the coast, and take a right turn, then right again into the car park. Since...

Re: Revamp planned for Paphos airport

My solutions would be, refurbish and open the old terminal as an extra terminal during peak times. Build the last bit of the airport road from Konia, at the end of the dual carriageway, to the airport. Enable free parking, like there used to be, for the first half hour in the airport car park. This ...

Re: New bill to prevent homeowners left fighting for title deeds

Our solicitor, who people still keep recommending on Facebook, told us, over a period of at least two years, that there was no mortgage on our land and she had done all the relevant searches at the Land Registry. It was only when our builder went bust and we did our own searches, that we found out t...

Re: New bill to prevent homeowners left fighting for title deeds

Hope it works. I would not wish what we and our neighbours went through on anyone. There are still people who have not got their deeds because their developer went bust and many who lost thousands. What happened in the noughties still needs to be addressed.

Re: Heating

When your pv system comes online you will find it very economical to use your aircon for heating. As you know, for 1kw of electric, and you get at least 3kw of heat. You have not had the advantage of storing kwh yet under the eac net metering scheme, but we have over 4000kwh stored which we will be ...

Re: The road not taken: hikers befuddled by unclear trails

Try following the E4 footpath from Paphos to Tsada. Very few signs, there is one at the beginning, at the end of the old airport road, but anyone getting off a plane would have great difficulty finding it. The first part follows follows the coast, and then makes a right turn up the Ezouza valley, wh...

Max, yes, they are all live and producing. In June we were achieving just over the 5kw with the new modules. Probably with dust free panels we would get over the 5kw mark.

Re: PV panels again...

Our solar edge app tells us exactly how much electricity we produce each day. solaredge (900 x 507).jpg Today we have used 6.5kwh through the meter. We have exported 20.1kwh to the grid. We produced 25.84kw of electricity. Therefore our total consumption for the day was 12.24kwh, of which 5.74kwh we...

Re: PV panels again...

Trev, basically for heating the pool in winter. Unlike your home, ours is an uninsulated concrete box. Last winter we almost used all of our surplus kwh, and we did not heat our pool in the very cold weather. With those extra panels, we will be able to heat all of our house to a comfortable level, u...

Re: PV panels again...

Our panels were very dusty for most of October, but after the downpours our production increased. We have 17 panels installed three years ago and 3 new panels, which are much more efficient than the original panels. However, they are facing west so, at this time of the year, produce less than the so...
