Re: Elderly health care

Jeba I wasn't suggesting that she try them all. I was suggesting that she saw a doctor / neurologist here to see what they said about her condition and what they would prescribe for it.. There is no way for a doctor to know which of the triptanes will work except to find out by trial and error (I´m...

Re: Elderly health care

Jeba.. Who has made the diagnosis that you need sumatriptane ??? Have you seen a doctor or consultant here in Cyprus to see what they will prescribe for you ?? I don´t need it, but my girlfriend does. It was prescribed by a neurologist in South Africa. There are other triptanes available in Cyprus ...

Re: Elderly health care

Dee is correct about there sometimes being different drugs used here. But for sure whatever ailment you have there will be people here in Cyprus with it, and being treated successfully :-) Unfortunately, not always. E. g. if you´re suffering from migraines and need sumatriptane you´ll not find it. ...

Yes, the Sewdish can. They changed in 1967 even though in a referendum the majority (more than 80 %) was against it.

Re: Senior Brexiteer Dan Hannan admits leaving EU is not quite going to plan

What I'm saying jeba is that current Social Security funding is inadequate, because an increasingly ageing population (in percentage terms) is costing the NHS and Social Services more and more. I understand that. However, I don´t agree with that you said losing your house because of the cost of car...

Don´t you have insurance for that in the UK?

Re: Asylum Seekers

The asylum seekers in the UK cannot provide proof of their income, they have none so we are led to believe. How can asylum seekers have an income when the UK government prohibits them from working. It´s not impossible. They may e. g. have investment income. My inlaws had housed refugees from Syria ...

Re: £350 million NHS Funding "Promise" by Leave Campaign

I'd fund NHS and Social Care from extra taxes on a sliding scale That would be similiar to Germany where you´ll have to pay about 16 % of your salary for health insurance and another about 2.5% for caregiving insurance. Those contributions are shared between employer and employee and both insurance...

Re: Asylum Seekers

We had to prove that our income was sufficient to provide for all our needs whilst living in Cyprus. We also had to take up private health insurance, as we wouldn't be covered by the Cypriot Heath Authority. Rather different I think to the immigrants allowed into the UK. Don´t you have to prove tha...

Re: Senior Brexiteer Dan Hannan admits leaving EU is not quite going to plan

Wouldn´t the cost of treatment be charged to the EU country the visitor is coming from? At least here in Cyprus my German public health insurance is reimbursing the Cypriot public health service for any treatment I receive. As I understand it that´s an EU-wide rule. Why should that be different in t...

Re: Private clinic scuppers state treatment deal with German Oncology Centre

Wouldn´t there a way around this? E. g. temporarily patients being treated privately at the GOC and being refunded the cost by the state? This is what is done in Germany if you can´t get an appointment with a public health contracted service provider within a month you can go private and public heal...

Re: Parliament rejects ban on drinking water being used in pools

Water coming from the island's main supply - local boards - is deemed to be drinking water That´s the part I don´t understand. Is water which has been stored for who knows how long in those white tanks on top of the roof really regarded drinking water just because it stems from the main water board?

Re: Meu 1 is sufficient

The MEU1 application isn´t always straightforward as I learned from my mother´s case. Immigration wanted a confirmation about health insurance on a form which her health insurance didn´t want to issue. Took some time and a lot of phone calls/emails to figure out which form was acceptable in the end....

Re: Over 70 per cent of rubbish still dumped in landfills

there are nearly 500 Waste-to-Energy plants in Europe and 1000 world-wide. Even in the 'third-world', there are many but Cyprus has resolutely refused the idea, despite EU subsidies available. I published a 39-page proposal for studying a project with 2 WtE plants, one emphasising the possibility o...
