Re: Emission fines inflate our electricity bills...
Our last bill showed we had consumed 1070 kwh. Cost, with net metering, €55.57. That works out at €0.052 per kwh. Most of our consumption was for heating our swimming pool, during the day. For our swimming pool, we used 700kwh through the meter and 354kwh solar units. Whilst our swimming pool heater...

Re: Morning Walk
Max, a good wind!! By mid afternoon it was gale force here in Anarita with really strong gusts. It blew our wrapped umbrellas over on our patio and we had to batten down the hatches and secure everything. We had taken the cover off the pool earlier in the day. Pool 29c when cover taken off at 10am. ...

Re: shoe repair shop Kings Mall
The guy who used to have a shoe repair shop in the old mall, at the entrance to Orphanidies, has a shoe repair shop opposite Sklaventis(Carrefourre) Supermarket on Polis Road. It is on the left, as you go up, on a corner. He's done minor repairs for us and not charged. I think he is still there.

Re: Easyjet Manchester - which gate
We always travel with just hand luggage, so no need to go to drop off. We always ask, around an hour before the flight is due to leave, at the assisted boarding area, after all the shops and just before the main bit, where they often sell the tickets to win a posh car.

Re: Greggs Sausage Rolls in Cyprus ?
As Louise said, really easy to make your own. For our Coronation party last weekend we made 20 sausage rolls out of just one sheet of Alpha Mega puff pastry and 1 pack of Snack, English style sausage meat. We also made a lunch pie with Snack sausage meat, chicken and and egg using our own hot water ...

Now seen it all. Sorry, I meant Prince George not Prince William. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed it and it was, for us, much more entertaining than previous royal concerts.

Re: Coronation concert
Watched around half tonight on bbc iplayer. We both thought it was brilliant and are looking forward to seeing the rest. Thank goodness they have not dragged some of the aged artists that featured in previous royal concerts. Lionel Ritchie was good but it was obvious that Princess Charlotte and Prin...

Still really windy in Anarita. Overnight, one of our umbrella stands blew over. I had attached bunting on it. Bunting blew off and managed to get entangled on the corner tile of the house. It is still intact but I'll wait for the wind to drop before re-attaching. Really strange weather. 28c yesterda...

Re: Strange object in sky
Whatever it was, it was massive. Really long with a row of horizontal lights. The photo in the Greek City times bears no resemblance to what we saw. Plus, that article was a month old.

Strange object in sky
Did anyone else see the object in the sky at about 8:50pm. It was huge, a really long object with a row of lights. Travelling west to east. Lights very bright when I first saw it, probably north of Paphos and then they slowly faded as it travelled eastwards. Probably visible for about 2 to 3 minutes...

Brilliant photos Max. There were rumbles of thunder in Anarita as we went out at 6:15pm to go down to Timi to see the Welsh Choir. Just a light shower in our area but very dark in the nearby hills.

Re: Cod fillets
The frozen Lidl cod fillets, which are in a vac type bag and quite thick (like cod loin) are the best we have had in Cyprus. Unfortunately they have not had them for quite a while. We defrost them and then dust them in flour before shallow frying in light olive oil. A lot of the cod sold is pollock ...

Re: Climate friendly heating... CMail
Trev, we had oil, underfloor heating which we have not used for years, because of the cost. One very cold winter, we were here just for school holidays, and we went through a full 1200 litre tank. We used to rely on our old aircon units which the builder put in and a couple of calor gas stoves. We h...

Re: Our Pool Heater 2022/2023
April 7th and we are almost at the end of our pool heating season. Pool is now 30c, with a heat loss of 2c each night. For the last 7 days we have run our air source pool heater for 6 hours a day, on the middle heat (eco) setting and the pool uncovered for around half this time, and each day the poo...

Greenair sealed ours with wire as we had a problem. The small birds can still get in, which we don't mind.

The government should be giving huge incentives for going green. Removal of VAT on solar installations. Allowing people to put the biggest array of panels on their roofs. Encouraging the phasing out of dirty fuels, including log burners. The net metering system is brilliant, as you can use the grid ...

Re: New solar pool pump vs extra PV modules for net metering arrangement
We have the Lorenz DC solar pump, fed by 3 pv panels on our roof which are easterly facing. It runs during daylight hours and has cut back on our chemical usage considerably. We got it because, when we had a UV sanitiser fitted, a pool expert recommended we ran the pump for 12 hours a day in summer,...

Re: Our Pool Heater 2022/2023
I'm not a mathematician and I use a simpler formula to work out a cost per kwh for our net metering system and for a non net metered system. Total cost / number of units consumed = cost per kwh. Our Nov Bill, which my figures are based on. Bill total, €96.40, divided by 489 kwh = €0.612 per kwh. Nei...
