Re: Infrastructure Conundrums - Split from Glorious Morning

Surely the money could be spent on things more important to the citizens such as improving investment in the health service which is the lowest per capita in the EU.
I am not saying that investment in tourism is a bad thing but there are priorities.

Re: Efforts underway to encourage visitors to Tala square

And I would suggest the pull for British Retired Expats was the low rates of tax....Cyprus's colonial past, the weather, a common language...three pin plugs and they drive on the right! In short familiarity...well apart from the weather! Common language? three pin plugs.....you have to be joking!! ...

Re: Efforts underway to encourage visitors to Tala square

who I would suggest care not a jot for Cyprus, but rather the money it can make out of it. So buying a luxurious villa (in order to get citizenship) and mooring their yachts (e.g. @€18,000 per annum) is making money out of Cyprus. I don't think so. I think the opposite is more closer to the truth. ...

Re: Efforts underway to encourage visitors to Tala square

Well, that will sort out the "problem" won't it...🙄 It is only in the view of Brits that a problem exists. I would suggest that Brits have had more of an effect on Cypriot culture than the Russians will ever have. As far as concreting over parts of Cyprus, I don't think you can lay that at...

Re: Efforts underway to encourage visitors to Tala square

It seems to me now that Cyprus is in danger of being completely taken over by the mega rich Russian community who, whilst probably keeping the Island afloat, are helping to destroy the Cypriot culture which is so sad. I suppose in the good old days when the Brits came flocking to Cyprus bringing the...

Re: Another shooting in the USA

if a person is unfit to be deemed responsible then don't allow them to bear arms...it seems this latest lunatic was known to the authorities....he should have been stopped. In that case 90% of the population of the USA would be barred from carrying guns. But surely it would be easier just to ban gu...

Re: Another shooting in the USA

It has been said before...its not the guns...is the person that fires the gun, and that is not a glib remark, it is fact....I honestly have no issue with the right to bear arms but that right comes with responsibility and you should be prepared and by law, be prepared to demonstrate you are respons...

Re: Another shooting in the USA

As to Obama, he passed a law preventing anyone with mental health issues, from owning a gun, one the first things Trump did, under instruction from the NRA, was to repeal the law. And now in his 'lip service' speech to the US nation he finishes off by inferring that it was a 'mental' issue. If it w...

Re: Car Licence Renewal - Help!

On the registration document for your car towards the bottom you will see something like the extract from my document {C.9/ Ap. TaUT6TT)TO<; 2/502518357 - A/0000015909/0I (Only this is in greek) The digits required are the equivalent of the 909 just before the last forward slash. Which is probably w...

I suspect that anyone enquiring in Kouklia village about the terrarium will be given blank looks  Interesting Varky, must take our grandkids there; for some reason kids are always enthralled by snakes. My wife, meanwhile, will want to stay in the car. Yes it was a bit difficult to find you hav...

Re: Snakes!

Never been there myself, but in the nearby village of Kouklia there a small snake park. I call it a park in the absence of a better description. It may well not be open this time of the year. Then of course there's Paphos Zoo. Been there with my daughter and grandson a couple of years ago.. Only sm...

And the EU are talking about creating a European Army. What a joke! The individual countries do not even provide sufficient support for EU peace initiatives.

Similar situation on land with Premier Inn the last time I stayed there. There were two wifi addresses available. One completely open, but you were warned that you could be hacked by other guests and another, where payment was required, which was advertised as completely safe. Your choice depending ...

Re: We will be worse off, irrespective of Brexit deal...

Speaking as a resident of Cyprus, the pound has fallen quite significantly over the past couple of years, be it because of Brexit or not.

Surely as a result of this shouldn't UK sourced goods now be cheaper here in Cyprus. I must say I haven't seen this happening, has anybody else?

Re: Hot Water Costs with no Solar

I , (not Hudswell) connected the dishwasher with the hot water pipe instead of the cold one in order to get pre-heated water with the result that a circle of the dishwasher is not using the normal 2.5 kw when connected with cold water as the coil will be heating only for a view minutes to reach the...

Hudswell,
I thought dishwashers took in cold water and have their own dedicated heating elements. Unless by 'dishwasher' you were referring to the human type. ;)

Re: General Hospital this morning.

Allesley, I think it was not a question of No.3 not turning up, but that number was never issued. I am sure gaps in numbers are created so that if required the people at the registration can slot their friends higher up the order rather than having to add them at the end of the list. Sometimes those...

I agree with Allesley, we are in danger of suffocating our bizarre British sense of humour with political correctness. This shows a lack of perception of the difference between what is a serious comment and what is humour. Having read loads of comments in this forum, experience gives some insight in...
