Re: Village priests

I am curious to know how well non-Cypriots get on with the priest of the village (my curiosity may not extend to towns). I will not say anything further here but I shall do after I see what you post. I have a Cypriot friend, whos brother is a priest, when we have attended family gatherings with the...

Re: Puzzling headlines

Strange to think that when an England team actually won the World Cup they probably earned a pittance. After the First World War professional footballers received a maximum weekly wage of £10. In 1920 the Football League Management Committee proposed a reduction to £9 per week maximum. Buchan was o...

Re: A few days away this month

Daughter and son in law, were over last month and spent three nights in a hotel in the canter of Napa, there were six guests in the whole hotel, and Napa was like a ghost town, they didn't enjoy the experience, may I suggest Larnaca might be a bit more lively

Re: Could Brexit signal the end of the road for second-home owners in Europe?

Your sarcasm WHL is wasted. In the 1990's the situation was reversed, UK being the EU member, As I posted, times have now changed the situation being reversed. While we have all been told to get an MEU1 or 3 as appropriate, there will be some British owners of properties in Cyprus, who have been un...

Re: Could Brexit signal the end of the road for second-home owners in Europe?

We used to come and go from Cyprus back in the 90's, particularly when we were thinking about buying a holiday home here. I don't remember any problems, we had to present our passports to Immigration at the airport who simply stamped our passports. When we left, they would do a 2nd stamp on the sam...

Re: Puzzling headlines

HIC, for what its worth, I think footballers, celebs, pop singers etc wages are obscene, and in a fair world, doctors, nurses, care workers etc, should be at the top of the wage scale and men kicking a ball should be on the bottom of the pile, that's in a fair world, unfortunately in the real world,...

Re: Puzzling headlines

Why does it matter to the general public what a footballer is paid? The general public do not pay anything towards a privately owned football club so no cost there. The areas around the club make money from servicing match days so the public so they win there. The footballers so called obscene wage...

Re: Puzzling headlines

Using your analogy: I can't paint a picture to save my life, nor perform brain surgery, nor play a violin. Does that mean artists, brain surgeons and violinists should earn a million quid a week simply because they have skills which I lack? Not denying that talented footballers should be rewarded, ...

Re: Puzzling headlines

I have a season ticket which costs me way north of a grand, every season Im not complaining what footballers earn, so why do you , who have never spend a penny at the turnstile, yet still moan? Its not your money that they are receiving, I think its terrible that untalented tv celebs, film stars, go...

Re: Farmers' union rails against overuse of pesticides

[quote=Dominic post_id=127172 time=1606470801 user_id=157] Bottom line is you have to eat. Max is saying, mix it up a bit. This is also advice nutritionists give for eating veg in general. For instance, you shouldn't just use spinach in smoothies, or just kale. You need to mix it up. In the case of ...

Re: Farmers' union rails against overuse of pesticides

The overuse not only of pesticides, but also hormones, antibiotics etc is unchanged since decades here in Cyprus. So, as more healthy you try to eat with local produced vegetables or fruits, as more you have the chance to absorb things which are not good for your body. What I suggest is to avoid hu...

Re: Coronavirus: delays expected to incoming and outgoing mail

I would never describe myself as a tightwad  Just sent two Thanksgiving e-cards to friends in USA. They do the same to us at Christmas. Been doing this for 15 years. Suits us both. At the end of the day, you open an e-card, read and marvel at it for 10 seconds, then move on. Likewise a physica...
