Re: No deal Brexit - UK expat pensioners could be chucked under the bus?

Alewfin Free movement to start with, we have been forced to accept all sorts of immigrants, some very dangerous to our country and it's citizens. There are many other laws that have been bad for us, I won't bore you by listing them all, but a quick trip to 'Google' will list them for you. Jackie I'...

Re: No deal Brexit - UK expat pensioners could be chucked under the bus?

Hudswell, The EU, quite rightly, does not want a former member to have the same or better benefits than current members. No different to that of a Golf Club or any other club. The EU has said that there can be a FTA between the EU and the UK. The UK would be a third country like Canada or Japan. And...

Re: No deal Brexit - UK expat pensioners could be chucked under the bus?

Backup posted in another thread, about where we were in 1973.... I am sure though, some will say that it was the Unions that made us the sick man - but it was much more.... a transigent employer base not interested in the well being of workers, only profits. Lack of investment in industry. No forwa...

Re: No deal Brexit - UK expat pensioners could be chucked under the bus?

Sorry Alewfin....none the wiser....I just do not understand why the EU is so adamant about its "4 Freedoms" when it comes to a trade deal with the UK...but will negotiate competitive trade deals with Canada and other countries with no such "Red Lines"...okay I do understand...it...

Re: No deal Brexit - UK expat pensioners could be chucked under the bus?

The largest effect on us that I have experienced was joining in the first place, it has ruined our country, our laws, and our trade outside the Europe, which was fine before. You have your facts wrong. The EU brought prosperity to the UK. The UK was universally known as 'the sick man of Europe ' be...

Re: No deal Brexit - UK expat pensioners could be chucked under the bus?

Hudswell '..you see what confuses me....is why the EU is able to negotiate a trade deal with Canada..without demanding its "Four Freedoms" but it can't ...or more precisely will not negotiate a similar deal with the U.K. When we are compliment....anyone got an answer?..' Its quite simple. ...

Re: No deal Brexit - UK expat pensioners could be chucked under the bus?

Dee The EU will never agree to our terms, they will make it as hard as possible for the British. Jackie You have it the wrong way round. There are no 'terms'. There are only 'proposals'. Proposals which are devoid of reality. The EU have stated from 'Day 1' what the terms were for leaving. And ther...

Re: No deal Brexit - UK expat pensioners could be chucked under the bus?

HIC, The other benefit of immigration was that the UK (unlike Italy, Japan and some others) avoided the demographic time bomb of a rapidly aging and costly to maintain population supported by a decreasing number of tax payers. The inverse pyramid. Modern countries have to find a way to fund an elder...

Re: No deal Brexit - UK expat pensioners could be chucked under the bus?

Democracy was not seen to be done. Many expats were excluded from voting. We now know that the 'people' were manipulated and lied to and not told of the implications of leaving the EU. The 'people' narrowly voted to leave the EU without any plans from any political parties or any leading Brexiteers ...

Re: No deal Brexit - UK expat pensioners could be chucked under the bus?

Certain aspects of Expat life as we know it today will almost certainly change after March next year. The changes have already started. I received a letter from a UK based insurance company that sell in Cyprus to say that my policy will no longer be issued from the UK. Imstead the company is setting...

Re: 2017 Computerised Tax return

Alan,

You have to fill in all 9 digits. If for example the actual amount is 20,000.00 Euros you enter it as 000020000 (no cents).

Re: Well done CYTA

Awhile a go I called CYTA and a really nice helpful engineer called to fix a problem. He asked me what speed I was paying for and I told him . He then replied that because of the distance from the nearest junction box to our house we would never get the speed we were paying for. He suggested I ring ...

Re: A question re MEU3 application

A pal of mine handed in all his documents to Immigration last week including photographs for his MEU3.

They refused the photographs saying that they take them there which they duly did together with (he assumed) his fingerprints.

Re: Long-anticipated Paphos marina envisioned to be "the largest in Cyprus"

The first thing to be constructed should be a road through the banana plantations inland from and be parallel with the present Coral Bay road to bypass all the heavy construction traffic that will use the current Coral Bay road. If they don't, the disruption could be the death of tourism in the area...

Re: Tax Return Errors - Any Suggestion / Solutions

Polly,

When it comes up with a choice, hit 'yes'. I did and it calculated my total correctly from the two pensions I had entered in an early section.

Re: Tax Return Errors - Any Suggestion / Solutions

Mandyr, I eventually managed to submit it. The instructions said something along the lines that the pension amount was up to 9 characters. What it actually meant was that it required leading zeros so that the amount entered was no bigger and no less than 9 characters. When I was a programmer way bac...

Tried your suggestions but still the same errors. Looks like a visit to the Tax Office is required.

Tax Return Errors - Any Suggestion / Solutions

I have tried to complete my electronic tax return but it just comes up with errors. It wants me to enter details of my employment in the Republic even though I have never been employed in the Republic. The Tax Return comes prerecorded with a Taxpayer's Classification of 09 Pensioner. PART 4 - TABLE ...

Re: Retirement in Paphos

I'm from Northumberland and it's a beautiful county as many people thankfully bypass it for Scotland. It's got lovely deserted sandy beaches - because it's invariably cold and windy. My father always said we had eleven months winter with one month bad weather. We lived by the sea and every Winter it...
