Re: Last night's rain another 25 l/m2 - good chance dam will overflow

We have been here nearly 12 years and to us there isn't a typical winter unlike the summer which is hot and dry. We have had many sunny days with bright blue skies in January and February. I was once badly sunburnt walking along the coastal path in January. But this winter has been bad or good for t...

Medical White Card - Renewal

My Cyprus white medical card is due for renewal in April.

Does anyone know whether a replacement card comes automatically through the post or do I have to present myself somewhere and fill forms in, if so where ?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Building in Koili

The building is a sort of multipurpose community centre for Kili and a number of nearby villages. The EU has provided about 90% of the funding with the rest coming from the neighboring villages. The building will include a sports facility including accommodation, restaurant / coffee shop and units w...

Re: Virus is about

Watch out folks. I have caught a virus. Dry hacking cough-painful. Headache. Aching all over. Just got over it. Took 10 days. The doctor said there is a lot of it about. Had the flu job. The worse is to come when the people who have been in the UK over the festive season return with all the UK bugs.

Re: Gatwick Still Closed

It would appear that for all the security measures at Gatwick and presumably at other airports (checking passengers for liquid containers, their shoes, belts and watches etc) there is no counter measures against someone buying a drone at any high street store and flying it into a passenger plane. IS...

Re: Gatwick Still Closed

The incident at Gatwick shows that UK National Security is seriously flawed and the Government are at fault for not having robust and effective counter measures against drones. Given how long it has taken for the government to call up the military one must assume that any drones flying over sensitiv...

Re: EU Travel Post Brexit

There is no need for a second referendum. Thanks to the ECJ, Mrs May can send an email to the EU cancelling Brexit without any loss of the UK's special concessions from the EU. The downside to this is that Farage still has a job. The only reason for a second referendum is to absolve all politicians ...

Re: Light at the end of the tunnel?

Now I fail to see how a Hard Brexit can be avoided. If there is a light at the end of the tunnel it's very weak and the tunnel is very long. There are only three possible outcomes: 1) Exit With Current Withdrawal Agreement 2) Exit Without Current Withdrawal Agreement 3) Remain Outcome 1: Looks like...

Re: Sorry,MEU3 again.no need to panick??

We went to Immigration in Paphos recently and were told that appointments were no longer available. When I asked why, I got a garbled response suggesting that their lists were full at that time. When I asked when we could make an appointment, I got the Cyprus shrug. We were in Immigration last week...

Re: Sorry,MEU3 again.no need to panick??

Went to Immigration last week with all our paperwork. Waited two hours and was then seen. Took 20 minutes to complete formalities but the nice lady never asked for any documentation (electricity bills, income tax returns) to prove we had lived in Cyprus for the last five years.

Re: Cyprus NHS

I would imagine though that the same could be said about treating Cypriots in the UK.. It is my understanding that the vast majority of the Greek Cypriots living in the UK are dual passport holders and therefore British who are entitled to 'free' NHS treatment. I don't know about the Turkish Cyprio...

Re: Cyprus NHS

The UK Government only pays a certain amount for us pensioners. I think the wording is that we have to pay the same fees that the Cypriot pensioners pay... Which we do at the moment ie 50 cents for drugs, €3 and €6 to see a doctor and €10 at A&E... So if Cypriot pensioners have to pay more, the...

Re: Sorry,MEU3 again.no need to panick??

Jimx,

This assumes that the UK and the EU agree and sign a legally binding Withdrawal Agreement without which there will be no Transition Period.

At the moment the talks are stuck primarily on the Irish Border. Something needs to give. Mrs May is still going on about a 'No Deal'.

Re: Brexit Information

This is a very well written and clear document. It quite rightly assumes there will be a legal Withdrawal Agreement and then a Transition Period. However, Mrs May is still going on about a 'No Deal'. The main stumbling block being the Irish border. If there is no solution to that problem there could...

Re: National Anthems

When home countries are competing against each other the UK National Anthem should not apply. The anthem for each country should be played. The English Anthem should be Jerusalem although I quite like Billy Connolly's idea of the theme music from the Archers. I think the best national anthem is the ...
