I think it is one of those laws where a Cypriot dose of common sense should be applied to British law, and the spirit, not the letter of the law should be adhered to. Have the law to protect the vulnerable but the common sense to apply it only when actually necessary.

Yes, but unless its caterpillars look like maggots it's not that.

In the UK, our bin would get emptied every week. In summer we would occasionally find maggots in it, so they would have been laid less than a week ago. If you bought your nuts two weeks ago, isn't it more likely that the eggs were laid in your house?
