Re: A Place in the Sun

Crikey that's really gone to the dogs that place or last time I was up there it had! Is it still full of graffiti? Yes 'a' as in Sally - a short one - Dala! Bit confused here, are we talking about graffiti at Tala Panorama? I signed the approval for the TV company to film there in May on behalf the...

Re: The historical buildings of Paphos will be illuminated at a cost of almost half a million euros

In all our time here we barely set foot in the old town. Since the redevelopment works, we go there a lot, I’m on mission to find the best carrot cake and coffee combo but that’s another story, so I can’t really compare if it’s busier or not. What I can say is that we had friends over recently and h...

€24. It just gives you the right to buy a plot. You can stop if you want.

Re: Dark side of the Med

We only made our first trip 'over the line' last month, so it was kind of nice to see a few bits from that trip such as the indoor market, the saddest part of the programme though was the line from the Mukhtar "we are 99% the same". what a waste.

Re: Long awaited heavy rain arrived at Minthis....( pics )

It never fails to amaze me how localised Cyprus weather can be ………… earlier I was watching a huge storm out at sea and thunder clouds on the opposite side over the mountains yet in my little bit of Paphos there was blazing sunshine! :) Shane So true. We could see and hear the rain Discobobulus refe...

I've never been to Paphos General, should the need arise for tests, is it the same scenario at Polis? - we are more less half way between, or should i should stick to going private!

according to Cyprus-storms.net, there were 9 separate thunderstorms being tracked by about 9pm this evening, hell of show visible to the north of the island when driving back from dropping Mum at the airport around 8ish.

Re: Paphos General Hospital today

It was the same in the U.K. I occasionally had to go to our local ( Orsett) for a blood test which opened its ticket system at 8am only to find people had been signing in their arrival time in the book the staff left out the night before - from about 6:45am! It’s used to drive me crazy, especially a...

About a dozen spots of rain in this corner of Polemi - thus completing the rain triangulation for Polemi.

Re: Brexit Update

Finally applied to transfer my UK licence for a Cyprus one last week, copped out and paid the extra €25 to Stevie’s (office next to USB bank next to traffic lights near Papantoniou) to fill in the forms and assist at the transport office. All very stress free, apart from the lady who takes the photo...

We find the pool cover extremely effective. Ours is Geobubble Solguard solar cover, we bought in in the U.K. before we moved over and moved as part of our removals. Can’t recall the exact cost by component but for the cover, tow kit, reel and a reel cover it’s was £656 from Poolwarehishe UK. Shipsha...

E303 - remember now, that's the road we came back on.

Re: Famagusta border crossing.

We went through there a couple of weeks ago (from north to south), very easy especially if you have google maps or Waze or Maps me on a smartphone. From the beach at Famagusta near the wrecked hotels. Follow the road out and there’s a big roundabout with a statue on it, bear left and take first exit...

Re: Best currency transfer company

Very sage advice. As others have said, aside from BoC it's almost impossible to create a new bank account or open a new credit card facility in the UK after you have left. Also difficult to get credit cards with sizeable limits in Cyprus these days. You can almost never have too many Plan 'B's. We s...

Re: Best currency transfer company

Before we moved over, we opened additional UK current and credit card accounts as we knew, through my wife’s expertise, this would be much harder to do, if we wanted to, without being on the electoral register, getting a new account through the UK credit scoring processes is very difficult. A simple...
