Re: Why you should consider moving to Cyprus

Photolady You don't have to explain yourself to anyone. We had the heating on here in May as we we had several cold days. Even though the place is insulated its fairly big and the floors still get cold. The wife feels the cold so who wants to be miserable. My electric bills here used to be horrendou...

Re: Why you should consider moving to Cyprus

Hang on, the Winter Fuel Allowance is restricted to over sixties if we're talking about the same thing. Not much good if you're a young family with kids and I was referring to Universal Credit where they took away £20 per week off the poorest section of the community and are now giving less than hal...

trevnhil wrote: Thu Aug 11, 2022 9:39 am Wow, that is a big increase. We use that 1lt boxed wine. Other places do sell it but usually at a slightly higher price than Smart
It is Trev, a big hike in price. The cheapest we've seen it is in Phillipos in Coral Bay which was I think €1.40.
The white medium dry is pretty good.

Re: Consumers warned over imminent dairy product price inflation

The Keo litre cartons of wine in Smart have increased in price from €1.45 to €2.20 which is some increase, not that I'd buy it of course. 😉

Re: Why you should consider moving to Cyprus

We got petrol for £1.70. Mind you, we also saw it on offer elsewhere for £1.84. I had forgotten how much the price of petrol can vary in the UK, often within a few miles. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that everything was smelling of roses. But the portrayal of Britain you get in the Britis...

Re: Why you should consider moving to Cyprus

I just spent two weeks in the UK and didn't see much in the way of rampant inflation. Nando's had gone up a bit since we last went a couple of years ago, but a lot of stuff in supermarkets still seemed reasonably cheap. And they had lots of types of cheddar, and copious amounts of pate. And big jar...

Re: Why you should consider moving to Cyprus

It was originally our intention not to return to the UK when we came out to live and work in 2004. [...] Thank you for this. It illustrates why freedom of movement is such a boon for working-age people. Changes in jobs and incomes can make life very unpredictable and when your immigration status is...

Re: Why you should consider moving to Cyprus

Firefly If you average £4000 it works out about £75 per week for utilities, water, gas and electricity and the money everyone gets is a tenth of that and on WFA less than a quarter of the total sum suggested. You forgot to mention the rampant inflation that is driving working people to Food Banks a...

Re: Why you should consider moving to Cyprus - The Brexit Connection

Dee, you're spot on. When our daughter came home at Christmas many flights were kept circling because they didn't have capacity to clear immigration fast enough. When she eventually landed about an hour late they just opened the gates and let people through with a rudimentary check just like it used...

Re: Why you should consider moving to Cyprus

With the proposed new requirements to meet ŕesidency for TCNs which I believe is purchasing a €250,000 property and.a €40,000 income I was wondering how many who moved here under the old requirements would meet the new criteria.

Re: Why you should consider moving to Cyprus

Trevor Project fear at it again. My current gas and electricity bills amount to roughly £45.00 per month. I am economical, but not miserly, with both. I have friends who avidly inspect the free meter, (which uses electricity), to see where they are spending most. Personally I fail to see why you wo...

Re: Why you should consider moving to Cyprus - The Brexit Connection

If Britain didn't lose its benefits, how would the remaining members who still paid their subs and abided by the rules feel? Precisely. We have many friends who are TCNs and they have to follow the same rules as the British now have to follow. I know how inconvenient it can be as my wife was a TCN ...

Re: Why you should consider moving to Cyprus

Cyprus is a fabulous destination but since Brexit it’s very difficult for a non EU Citizens to move to especially if you require employment as with most other EU countries, Even if you were thinking of a winter bolt hole it’s not quite on the cards I think the EU strategy on penalising the Brits is...

Re: UK PM

Jimward Everything you wrote is spot on, the only Minister as far as I can see who comes out of this mess in the UK with any credibility is Ben Wallace the Defence Minister who has generally done a good job under very difficult circumstances. It looks like the country will be saddled with another li...

Re: New traffic regulations due to work near Paphos Hospital

I think all the roadworks are out of control, too many at the same time. Yesterday I was trying to get to the Hellenic bank by Cyta and the roads around there were chaos as they had extended the roadworks on the Cyta road. 40 minutes to get through to the bank as many like me were following the old ...

So sad.
I thought she was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen when I was about sixteen and she never lost that beauty.

RIP Olivia.
