Re: Mayor of Paphos locks horns with Unesco over new Paphos jetty

I can understand both parties in this dispute. On one hand the Mayor has always regarded his role is to improve the appearance of Paphos and to attract business into the area in an attempt to compete with other major cities on the island but Unesco are concerned that a large influx of tourists from ...

Re: Tender for new Paphos-Polis road to be launched next month

I am not saying a new road to Polis isn't required but that it would be better to make it 4 lane, 2 up and 2 down. I thought the new road was to improve safety and also cut journey time whilst relieving congestion through Paphos. My partner witnessed an horrendous head on collision on the polis road...

Re: Tender for new Paphos-Polis road to be launched next month

If it is a single lane each way won't the same problems of reckless overtaking of large vehicles still occur ?

Re: Is S1 redundant ?

That doesn't sound too promising to me. I would have thought that if the UK was picking up the tab for some 12,000 S1 holders then a consultation would have been already held and a decision made prior to the scheme coming in to effect or is it diplomatic speak for " We haven't a clue and didn't...

Re: Is S1 redundant ?

Perhaps the High Comissioner can throw some light on it. These charges are as of the 1st March so accruing daily and one can only suppose that they will be back dated so it really needs speedy clarification or pensioners could end up with hefty bills which no doubt will have to be paid before receiv...

Re: Is S1 redundant ?

I would hope that the BHC can give a positive answer to the additional health costs that are being levied by the Cypriot authorities since even for a pensioner below the tax threshold substantial amounts will have to be paid. Around €300 per person this year and €500 per person next year irrespectiv...

Re: Is S1 redundant ?

My accountant informed me yesterday that she had received information that ALL pensioners will be liable for the 1.7 % Gesy payment and that this would be payable to the tax office. How, when etc was still unknown apparently.

Is S1 redundant ?

I am led to believe that all persons of pension age resident in Cyprus will have to pay 1.7% of their income as from March 1st under the Gesy plan. I am now wondering what the advantage of holding an S1 is although Immigration are still requiring one to be held by applicants.

Customs payments

Having just collected some dog medication sent by post from USA and had to pay €5 to the customs chappie in the post office it set my mind to wondering if we will have to pay duty on goods from the UK if there is no brexit deal.

Re: Fridge wanted

Sorry to disagree Trev. We have agreement that we can use the spare land adjacent to the shop for parking also which gives us space for about 4 or 5 cars. The new shop hopefully will be a big improvement on our current 3 shops, consolidating them into one large bright sales area with ample storage w...

Not many or any Cypriots would agree with your comments HiC, I think the happenings of 2012-13 in the banking sector will never be forgiven and rightly so in my opinion

Re: BoC to shutter 15 branches, no redundancies ??

Sadly I can confirm the Polemi branch is closing in Feb and the atm will be removed also.
A protest and appeal to the BoC management is planned.
I feel sorry for the elderly who have no internet and do not drive.
