Re: Ant Baits

I just use Ant Powder, not as easy to get hold of since the Euro shop (Polis Rd) closed, but d-i-y shops sell it. I find this works very well.

I think that's wishful thinking on your part, Al. Shops here will usually only accept Euros!

Re: PL's upgraded Directory - missing companies

All good and well established companies. Excellent service and advice from Costas over the years. Nicolaou carry an amazing stock of electronic items, but I often find it hard to get served there. They are often very busy, and seeing a female Brit, they seem to prefer serving male customers first......

Re: Advice please. New laptop needed. What is best Apple Macbook or Apple MacBook Air, or a new Microsoft Laptop?

Thanks all if you who have contributed. Very interesting reading. One thing that nobody has mentioned is the apparent fact that due to the various problems that many users of MS encounter with their computers, a whole army of computer technicians exist whose main job is to help fix them.... How many...

Re: Advice please. New laptop needed. What is best Apple Macbook or Apple MacBook Air, or a new Microsoft Laptop?

Thank you all for your most enlightening and helpful responses. At least I feel much better prepared for the business of selecting a new laptop. My first inclination is to go for an Apple one and will be checking out prices of both new and refurbished ones while I am in the UK, but will also look at...

Advice please. New laptop needed. What is best Apple Macbook or Apple MacBook Air, or a new Microsoft Laptop?

Hi All, I have just been told that my old Toshiba Laptop is on its last legs as the hard drive is making ominous clunks. It is also running very slow despite a stay with my computer specialist. Who was trying to sort it out! Now for my dilemma. What should I replace it with? I already have an Apple ...

A good reminder for those who didn't understand what BCC is there for.
I always use this method when I am sending an email to multiple addresses.

Re: Recommendations for Troodos Hotel

The Forest Park Hotel is very comfortable and in a lovely setting with outdoor swimming pool and the grounds are shaded by pine trees. You could also look at The Mill at Kakopetria which is in a converted watermill, very different, but also a comfortable place to stay with good food.

Pete, No I don't use these toilets myself now having located some cleaner ones elsewhere, but I suspect that many others who are not very mobile or are less particular might.... I wonder who at the general has the responsibility for checking that cleaning and maintenance jobs are carried out there? ...

Yes, I was here at the time when this accident happened. It happened at night as the helicopter was transporting some senior officer home after some sort of event.
Seems the pilot may have flown into power lines or some such...

Hi Dominic, You made a good effort with this village, but in my humble opinion there are others which would offer you very good photographic opportunities such as Lysos, Fyti. Simou and parts of Milou. Not only are they all scenically situated with wonderful views, but they also have lovely old stree...

Re: Private hospitals in Paphos

Pete, Don't agree with your statement that no one will get ill as a result of dirty and badly maintained toilet facilities. Dirty non flushing toilets, plus no proper handwashing facilities in a part of the hospital where patients wait sometimes for hours to see a doctor is a health hazard in many w...

Re: Private hospitals in Paphos

I'm not sure that Mike Strands remark that no one will get ill when we have been talking about filthy conditions in hospital toilets is strictly true, especially if there is no provision for washing ones hands with soap after visting a toilet which is probably crawling with germs of all kinds...

Re: Monuments to Queen Elizabeths accession to the Throne

When they were built by the British Colonial Government, it was an effort to provide clean running water to the villages, especially the ones in the more remote villages. The way they were built was to provide a tap where jugs or other utensiles could be filled, the trough below would catch any spilt...

Re: Private hospitals in Paphos

Yes Mike, I have. Though they were not as bad last year as they appear to be in your more recent photo. But the state they were in last year was disgusting. No soap, paper towels, toilet paper generally dirty and smelly. How they can be left in that awful state anywhere where the public has access a...

Re: Monuments to Queen Elizabeths accession to the Throne

Even some latter day British arrivals to Cyprus tend to denigrate the fact that the British Colonial Administration actually did many good things while they were the government here. Building water supply tanks and providing taps and drinking troughs in the villages and in remote areas which were us...

Re: Private hospitals in Paphos

As Trev and Lloyd have both said when contemplating an operation here you need to take the right steps. I have had 2 operations at two of the best private clinics/hospitals in Paphos. On both occasions I was guided by my experienced and trusted GP, or by another specialist, who I had used previously...

Phoenix Ambulance Service

I have just read on the 'other' Paphos website about what has happened to the above named private ambulance service, which had previously been based in Peyia, then Kissonerga. I thought there was a post on here in which some members had expressed their own concern about where the 4 ambulances which ...

Re: New Paphos walkway opened.. CYWeekly)

The photo used in the OP's post was one looking along the harbour sea front. The new walkway has been finished for a while now! We walked along it last winter and spring. Yes, it certainly makes walking along that stretch of the sea front easier as it is now, as the old path used to be muddy in wet ...
