Re: Leather belt

If you cannot find a shop to sell you the buckle, you could haunt the various charity shops in case they have either a belt or a handbag with suitable buckle. Then all you will need is a cobbler to attach buckle to belt.

Re: Jam Roly-Poly Pudding

I simply use a large saucepan, two mugs for measuring, and a long handled wooden spoon! My recipe cooks in 10-20 minutes. It actually takes far longer to chop and destone the fruit than it does to turn it into jam. I agree with you, the Bonne Maman jams are good, but I also like the Duerr's Ginger m...

Never afraid to express his opinion, even if he was apparently the only one with that opinion. He enlivened many a discussion on the various Cyprus forums.
Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Re: Jam Roly-Poly Pudding

Looks really yummy, Lloyd.
Have you tried making your own jam to get the right consistency? Plenty of plums around at the moment, and they are full of pectin for setting ...
I have a very quick easy recipe if you want it, Lloyd.

Re: The Kindness of Cypriots

Yes, my fridge is once again making fruit juice every time I close the door! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ And the amount of actual help as well as offers, not just immediately following Dave's death, but even now 20 months later ... It is very heartwarming, but still a little embarrassing that one simply cannot outgift a Cyp...

Re: Moving OIL RIG off the coast

We saw it as we were driving from Oniros to the harbour. Reminded me of when the Orion rig ran aground off Guernsey in the seventies. Amazing sight, both of them.

Re: Passion fruit

Shame about your fig tree, Lloyd. I loooove figs. For breakfast, for snacks, for dessert ... I eat loads. One of my trees is a double cropper, so I always make fig jam and fig chutney too, and a friend has a dehydrator to make dried fruit ...

Re: August electricity bill €10-15 less for average household

My current (please excuse the pun) average consumption is 5 or 6 units a day. I have used air con about 3 times so far this summer, earlier on in the heatwave when it was too hot and breezeless to sit outside in the shade. Consumption increases almost threefold in the winter as I use up my PV credits.

Re: People urged to do their bit in keeping down rodent populations

My cats are pretty good at vermin control. One seems to specialise in mice, the younger one catches (and eats 🀒) rats, the latest being dispatched last evening as the sun went down.

He could ask in the coffeeshop of nearby villages (you didn't say whereabouts your friend wants his bee hives). I am sure some farmer would bee (sorry, couldn't resist that pun) happy for extra pollination of his crops.

I love seeing moths and butterflies - but I am certainly considerably less keen to see their juvenile versions! My mint barely survived the predations of a particularly hungry bright green caterpilar 😠

Re: Horseless carraiges.Petrol or Diesel?

Austin7, got exactly what I wanted, although when I started looking I obviously didn't know what I really wanted! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. And I have solved the boring grey colour by tying an assortment of coloured ribbons to the door handles. πŸ˜²πŸ˜€ Very happy with my car, although I do miss being able to just lob the bag ...

Re: Horseless carraiges.Petrol or Diesel?

Back to the original question, diesel or petrol ... When my late husband decided to trade in the diesel twincab for something I would enjoy driving after his death, he left it entirely to me to choose, but recommended an engine of less than 2 litres to reduce motor tax. So I did a lot of investigati...

While obtaining your MEU3 is not essential, I agree with Jim above, it is prudent, particularly if you own property over here.
