Re: MPs use House Brexit debate to push ouster of British bases

Yes, but they agreed that the UK could keep the Sovereign Bases when the rest of the Island was handed over to Cypriot rule.

Re: Electricity prices to rise by more than 5% in June

I wonder why these articles from the local press concerning electricity prices, always take us for an idiot, telling the price of one unit is only 14.60 cent, when in reality it is between 24 and 28 cent per kWh, depending on your consumption figures. If one reads the article three times you will n...

Re: Death on Cyprus - urban roads three times higher than EU average

I have seen speed traps on the Motorway, but I have also seen them in various places around the Paphos area, as well There are often police speed traps on the road between Polemi village, past the Sodap winery, to the fuel station at the junction with the Paphos-Polis road. I am now one of those ir...

I believe that merchant banker is referring to the one on the Peyia to Polis road. There has been a bit of activity there but it still remains closed. I was told they are still awaiting permits/ licenses etc. I will post when it opens as I only have to look across the field to see it. Neil On the P...

You can't beat Guernsey butter for a rich yellow colour and loads of flavour.
I remember in my early teens being rather horrified on my first trip to Normandy to be presented with a white rather tasteless substance that they reckoned was butter!

Rain during lunch at the Vineyard in Letymbou, but not enough to shift us from under the sails and sunbrollies into inside!
Very dusty rain to judge by the state of my windscreen.

Re: New health service

It appears that I am one step ahead of Tsadaken in that I have had my request to be a beneficiary of my chosen GP accepted (2 days after applying). According to the email I received accepting my request, I must now visit that doctor to 'validate my identity'. Does anyone know what that entails, wha...

Two dogs per house sounds good, but many people I know (Brits too) already have more than two dogs. Who decides which dogs are kept and what is supposed to happen to the "surplus"?

The olive oil was the "sun lotion", the lemon juice was the insect repellent and the vinegar should have gone on your ch...

Re: Half of population now registered with Gesy, foreign nationals encountering problems

I wonder what you do if you are ill enough to want to see a doctor on the days when Dr Avraam is not working.. The same goes for the village doctor who attend Polemi on a Friday I believe. He is connected with Iasis Hospital, so can most likely be found there if needed outside of his Polemi surgery...

I was bitten on the side of my foot yesterday while eating my breakfast outside, admiring my lovely view. Shortly after that, I saw a stripey mosquito hovering near me, and managed to catch it. Yuk, it was the one that had bitten me!

Dimsum, I have re-read your posts and it has just sunk in that you are not only grieving for the effective loss of your hand, but also the death your husband, for which I offer my sincere condolences. I can only imagine how much your earlier loss has exacerbated your feelings over the second. For wh...

Re: Operation gone wrong

Dimsum, I feel for you, but as others have said, the litigation route is lengthy and extremely costly. The only winners are the lawyers on both sides, who pocket huge fees irrespective of who wins the case. As I know from personal experience, even if you win the case and are awarded costs, this does...

Well, I have had an email confirmation from the village Dr that I am now fully registered as one of his patients. Just hope I don't need any medical services during this "in limbo" period until the new system gets fully up and running, with any teething problems sorted out.

Re: Half of population now registered with Gesy, foreign nationals encountering problems

I received an email from Gesy. The subject, in English, is "Basic Information about GHS-GESY". The actual email is totally in Greek. However, when I clicked on the link, it took me to a web page with an English pull-down option. Which didn't work ... Methinks there still a little work to be done by ...
