Re: Lebanon
It is getting a bit rough in Lebanon. Iran joining in. Gives this a different angle. I agree and with so many other conflicts in other areas it is worth taking a look at the bigger picture: 'Amidst the numerous conflicts unfolding in 2024, the pressing question on everyone's mind is: What countries...

Re: Guiding emergency vehicles to the house.
Surprised at how many people I know whose mobile phone is not connected to the internet 24/7. Even a few who don't even have a mobile (not even the trusty Nokia). Not as if they are with someone all the time who does have internet access. I can only advise them to carry some form of ID with a phone ...

Have been using Currency Solutions for over 15yrs. Very efficient service + competitive rates. Think you need a reliable broker when exchanging currency. Dave When I tried to pay a South African bill via them, I was told that the minimum amount they would accept was GBP 3000. Quite a restriction. I...

Re: Guiding emergency vehicles to the house.
When I moved to a more rural area I visited the nearest hospital and spoke to the Medical Director about various emergency scenarios because I have a very limited time to get medical help should I have an episode of anaphylactic shock - the main worry being how to find me when at home! He told me to...

I visited the Virgin Mary care home in Chloraka a few months ago and was immediately felt welcome by both staff and clients (not sure of the correct term). Happy to recommend this caring and well run establishment.

Interesting comments about Voltaren / Diclofenac as for a number of years various doctors including a General Surgeon, Orthopaedic Surgeon and A&E Consultant have all advised us not to take it in any form since we were 65+ years old. (One person was treated for stomach problems several years ago...

Re: A Fishy Question.
Can you buy cooked fish in Paphos and if so where from ? Check the hot food counters at Alphamega, Papantoniou in town as I have seen fish of different types at both. Maybe Sklavenitis also has fish now it also sells hot food to take away. The mashed potato at Alphamega is also worth checking out!

Re: Where The Locals Go
Most of these Cypriot holidaymakers are not from the Paphos district, but mainly from Nicosia area and the other districts. Also Turkish Cypriots who lived before in that area, which you can recognize on their different car registration number. It would be really great if one day the Paphos to Poli...

Re: Winter Fuel Payments scrapped
Yes, some residents of mountain villages still receive it, I believe if over 600m’s. Is this not a cypriot grant rather then a UK one? A link to a previous post on Paphos Life raises the question if the Cypriot winter fuel allowance is now only paid to EU nationals? https://www.paphoslife.com/forum...

Re: WATER!!!!
Are there specific reasons for the water supply problems in these 2 villages? Both areas have reservoirs/tanks which are filled from Paphos mains supply. Are you sure about that? I thought Peyia got its water from Kannaviou Reservoir. The pipe runs near our house. A few years back a bulldozer burst...

Chloraka is in the 10th week of daily water cuts in certain areas.
Tala also experiences water shortages and cuts quite often with those in some areas having to wait longer than others for their tanks to refill.
Only so much water available - ''When it's gone it's gone.''

Some charities eg PAWS are asking people to use their details when shopping at Papantoniou when paying at the till, particularly if people don't shop there often enough to get the 1100 points to change to €10 off the bill. Not sure if you can now transfer points to someone else once they have been c...
