Re: Paphos Castle Illuminations

I think it looks fabulous.
I can just picture the odd musical offering going on down there on warm summer evenings. The area has a bit of an amphitheatre look about it.

Gardeners - your biggest enemy?

As we embark on the fourth attempted purchase of an house in Cyprus, I've been reflecting on the miserable time my garden here in Wales has had this year, hoping things will be better there. Recently, I lost two whole rows of rocket to cabbage white caterpillers who appeared, stayed a day (unnoticed...

Re: New Member saying Hi!

I'm thinking of a long-term trip to Cyprus. So It would be great if you give a piece of advice how to find good properties, is Paphos worth staying in or what rental services you may recommend to use. Hi Emma and sorry for the horribly slow reply! There is so much on at the moment that I don't drop...

Re: Peyia Market

Great report as always! Interesting to see the sale of fasting cookies - and yes, it would be permissibly to dunk them in jam! Just in case anyone is interested: The rules around fasting in the Orthodox Church are confusing even for those in it, and differ both between jurisdictions (Russian, Greek,...

Re: Akourdaleia Church And Mill

Another excellent trip, and when we move there we're definitely going to retrace your steps for ourselves. The icon you pictured is Saint Paraskevi, herself holding an icon of the Saviour. She was born on a Friday, hence her name and where Google came up with the translation. Christ was crucified on...

Re: Akourdaleia Cave Church

Another great account. I love seeking out these ancient little churches too.
The glass vessel looks to me like a small paraffin lamp - there's a visible wick, and soot around the chimney. :)

Re: Getting harder to retire here

You might imagine my horror upon discovering this story yesterday as I checked out the company of Esme Palas. It appears on their website too, but it was the first I'd heard of it. How is this not a major talking point still, or did everyone have their say last month? We are coming over in August wh...

Re: UK tourists to pay Cyprus visa waiver fee

Presumably, rather than pay the Visa Waiver fee, you could instead pay for a visa? I wonder how the costs would compare. If there's no visa possibility, then calling it a visa waiver doesn't sound quite right.

Re: New Member saying Hi!

Thanks for the advice everyone. We've actually been researching this for a couple of years, and I've had searches running on various property websites for rather longer. I know our choices are limited by budget, but also know that there are properties out there which fit the bill. With future mobili...

Thanks - I assumed that was likely the cause.
I'd better get posting then!

Re: New Member saying Hi!

You're right trevnhil, but I have a shortlist already of four properties to look at when we're over in August, so it's just a matter of waiting for the right one to come along. I agree that if my search was limited to the likes of Tala, then I'd need to double my budget, but we're happy to be away f...

Re: New Member saying Hi!

Termites Dream - thanks for your message. I think there's a disparity there in our price against that of your neighbour of about 100k, unless the fellow is discounting heavily. I don't seem to be able to reply to your PM unfortunately - is that a 'new user' thing I wonder?

New Member saying Hi!

Hi all, New member to the forum though I've been following the Facebook and YouTube offerings for over a year. My wife Carolyn and I are looking towards a move to the Paphos area in the next 12 months or so, hopefully to retire, although as I work in IT Support, I could conceivably continue to work ...
