Re: Ancestry DNA
There's the issue of these companies handing over your genetic information to law enforcement agencies and other third parties around the world without your permission. You might not mind, but your relatives (including distant ones that you don't even know exist) may. Even if you're happy with the c...

Re: British in bad books!
The UN peacekeeping mission and the sovereign bases are two different things. Of the 801 UN peacekeepers, 257 are British. The bases have nothing to do with Turkey and were here long before 1974. They are a British interest and don't contribute to the defence of Cyprus. Cyprus is constitutionally ob...

Re: Traffice light cameras
That may work in the Netherlands, but in Cyprus where the standard of driving is pretty low, but the tendency to speed is common, bends in the road planted densely with trees could increase the number of fatal road accidents. Traffic calming measures are dangerous, folks! You read it here first! Th...

Re: Traffice light cameras
The 30 km/h roads here also feel very slow and almost no one sticks to that limit. The Mesogi road is the same at 50 km/h and is a perfect example of a stroad . Sticking up a sign with a number on it will never effectively control traffic speed, any more than Cyprus's many stop signs make people sto...

If I told you that the price of new TVs were falling would that be a good or a bad thing? If i went onto to say the price of a second hand TV was falling rapidly would you be surprised.. of course not.. new TVs are better and cheaper than they were a couple of years ago,, The same thing has been go...

Re: Viva… Cyprus Mail….
My village council recently replaced the road signs and the new ones all bear a photo of a suspiciously lush green landscape. A quick reverse image search revealed a stock photo from Germany.

Re: High-speed transport
Yes, Cyprus would definitely benefit from a train system. Ideally you'd be able to get from Polis to Paralimni by rail. Tram systems in Nicosia and the three towns could be integrated with the trains. I believe the government has mooted the idea in the past and looked into EU funding. Will it ever h...

My son brought this to my attention. He works as an Intelligence Analyst in the UK and has been asked to look at this and also a similar issue in Limassol. https://cyprus-daily.news/jihadists-in-chlorakas-says-the-community-council-filenews-7-9/ He can't be very good if he fell for obvious and amat...

Re: Re: Jumbo's refunds
As for refunds, Cyprus may belong to the EU, but I don't believe that they like to abide by EU rules. In the EU cars are required an MOT after 4 years then every 2 years after that. The UK requires an MOT after 3 years and every year after that, it has never changed even when part of the EU. Its a ...

Apparently it's been happening in Polis too. They seem to target the elderly and lone women.

The policy should have specified billing periods rather than actual months, given that you never know when the EAC will read your meter.

Re: Fire on B7 between Giolou and Skoulli
Apparently there were three fires in the area, and it was arson: Earlier on Wednesday the fire services announced that three fires had been extinguished in the district between the communities of Akoudralia and Steni on the heels the forest fire which had required the full involvement of services to...

Fire on B7 between Giolou and Skoulli
At about 16:30 I drove past quite a large wildfire right next to the B7, about halfway between Giolou and Skoulli. Flames were lapping at the road and there was a lot of smoke. I wouldn't be surprised if the road is closed soon.

Re: Cats dying of covid
It's not Covid-19 anyway, it's feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), which also happens to be a caused by a coronavirus. Humans can't catch it. Symptoms are usually not obvious. Treatment is expensive and potentially difficult to deliver, so it's unlikely any strays will be saved. The 300,000 number ...

Re: Cats dying of covid
never, EVER, feed stray cats. You only propagate prolonged misery that the cats do not deserve. As opposed to starving to death? What an idiotic comment. Many and perhaps most of the people who feed strays also get them neutered. They are well aware of the problems and are helping to fix them. But ...

Quads and buggies shouldn't be available to rent. They're a danger to their drivers and a nuisance to everyone else.
