Re: Mayor of Paphos gives answers about everything...

A great visionary and exactly what Paphos needed. The interview certainly presents him as someone with a vision and woe betide anyone who tries to divert his course. I hope he gets in again.

Re: Expat Brits fear pensions loss

This change isn't necessarily a bad thing, so have a serious think about your own circumstances. A friend of mine receives a UK police pension from her deceased husband, together with a UK state pension. Prior to the change she is taxed on both in Cyprus, and actually paid tax. The change means the ...

Re: New Bus Station Finally Opens!

My wife just rang me to say it looks a bit chaotic with people not knowing where to go. I think a few days notice may have been sensible, as people will still be heading to the temporary station.

Re: British in bad books!

Although the Sovereign bases are on the island of Cyprus, they are not within the territory of the Republic of Cyprus. They are a British Overseas Territory, as are the Falkland Islands for example. They are not involved in the UN peacekeeping mission or have a role in the rest of the island. You ca...

Prior to it being a restaurant It was a typical Cypriot bungalow. My wife knew the old lady who used to live there.

Re: Elgin marbles

Oh my, the flood gates would open. 'That's my mummy', takes on a whole new meaning :o Just as a matter of interest, Josef, how would you address it, or think that it should be addressed? I accept that the return of the marbles may well set a precedent. Whether that results in flood gates opening is...

Re: Elgin marbles

Oh for goodness sake, they belong in the museum just down from the Parthenon, together with the other part of the marbles. They form no part of British history and most of the UK population have never seen them. If they were returned they would be at no risk of damage due to the high standards maint...

Re: What do you expats/residents do at Christmas?

A multicultural dinner at ours with a few friends who would otherwise be on their own. Then feet up with a glass of something. Followed by me nodding off.

Interesting. I believe Jumbo are one of the owners of the mall, and presumably needn't pay rent, so it would be strange to leave it.

Re: The Red Pool From Above

No, you are wrong. I lived in the area long enough to know that serial killer Metaxas dumped the bodies in the red lake of Mitseras, Nicosia district and not in the Kinousa red lake... one source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsero_murders Max Apologies Max, you are quite right. Clearly, I shoul...

Re: The Red Pool From Above

A beautiful area indeed, peaceful and serene. However, when visiting, please spare a thought for the female victims of the serial killer Metaxas, some of whom he dumped in suitcases in the lake five years ago.

Good video Dominic. I love the old town at night. Smart, fun, up market, and relaxed. So much better than TOTK and Coral Bay.

The woman who runs the MP Kiosk (often called the Philippine Supermarket) in the Titania centre is called Needa and she is really helpful. So don't be shy and pop in for a browse. She stocks Philippine and Sri Lankan items. You will find stuff you won't get anywhere else in Paphos, and also that you...

Notice of arrest warrant.

I've just had a call from the police saying there is an arrest warrant issued against me.
Am I worried? No.
It's obviously spam. It's a computer voice, and the police don't ring you up. They call round and arrest you.
Don't fall for it. Just hang up.

Re: Fabrica Hill From Above

Thanks for this Dominic. It's good to see the roundabout from above. I've often wondered what it looked like from tha angle.

I'm a big fan of Fabrica Hill and have regularly walked it. There is always something to see which has been newly discovered
