Re: 500 Britons become Cypriots in the shadow of a hard Brexit

A recent survey indicates increased support for the EU within the Cypriot community. The majority of Cypriots want to remain in the EU.

Re: Cyprus Permanent Partition?

Actually, other than recognition, it has in effect already happened. The North has been running it's own affairs (admittedly with financial support from Turkey) for over 40 years. Don't forget, the North is within the EU. The difference is that the "aquis" had been suspended pending a solution. If p...

Re: 500 Britons become Cypriots in the shadow of a hard Brexit

I have applied and am waiting for 18 months (I was told) for the papers to be assessed. However, the nice woman in the Paphos District Office (this is where you apply if in Paphos District) said my papers were OK and would forward them on. Otherwise my experience was the same as that detailed by Lou...

Re: Bishop lambasted by state officials, Church distances itself

I guess the government statement is OK, but there ought to be more coming from the church. He needs to be dismissed of course. However, the church's views are not much different from his, so that won't happen.

Re: Message from the B.H.C.-important

This is all very well, however my husband and I applied for our MEU3 last September and have all the paper work to say we have paid etc. We are still waiting for our certificate nearly one year later. We have email the immigration office in Nicosia no reply (surprise, surprise) and have been to the...

Err, the Paphos Beer Festival was the weekend before last. The event you describe is the Chloraka Beer Festival.

The Chloraka one is far superior than the Paphos one.

Re: More astounding remarks on gays by Bishop of Morphou go viral (video)

This guy makes the Cyprus church a laughing stock. Whatever happened to love thy neighbour?

In my experience, grubby and unkempt old men in frocks usually smell a damn sight worse than gays I know. In fact, few people smell as good as the gays I know.

Even when they smell of Rhubarb.

Re: Police arrest Briton in Ayia Napa rape claim, free Israelis

If what is now being said is true (and we won't know until the court case) then she is not the first to make such a claim whilst on holiday. A number of girls have made such claims in order to get compensation from the holiday company. Whatever the outcome, a great disservice has been done to all th...

Re: Work underway to create Paphos’ biggest urban park

As the area is called Pembes Wood, and pembes is Turkish for pink, I think we can assume it is probably Turkish Cypriot land. Which would also explain why suck a large plot in the centre of Paphos has not been developed. I believe the law states that any Turkish Cypriot with land in the south can cl...

Re: A specially strained relationship

Some people say the "special relationship is like that between a poodle and it's owner, with the poodle being the UK. In fact the "special relationship" is more like that between the poodle and a lamp post, with the lamp post being the UK.

If they are resident here, then the usual passport, yellow slip etc (for both parties if jointly owned). If they pay tax here then they will need a tax clearance certificate to prove their tax affairs are up to date, but the lawyer will sort that out.

Great photos that show just how great the old town is.

By the way, in the photo of the burger shop you can see some chairs on the pavement on the right. That is a bar called Kinki which has a large number of craft beers and aprox 50 gins. Worth visiting I suggest.

Interesting. I think this is a Cirque du Soleil production so should be of the highest quality and, most importantly, no animals.

Re: Old Pafos in 2019 - Part 1

Great photos. I'm pleased to say I know all the locations bar 3, so will be investigating those in the coming days. For info, the fish shop shown doesn't do any form of haddock I'm afraid, or any smoked fish at all. It does wet fish as liked by the Cypriot consumers (bream and bass for example). We ...
