Re: Cyprus calls for applications from those hit by 2013 Haircut

Lets hope they get full compensation. It affected a few people who had proceeds from house sales taken, before they were transferred to the UK. Hi John - unfortunately, from what I have read, I don't think it will be full compensation: "partially replenish losses incurred by depositors and bon...

Not sure if anyone on here was caught up in the 2013 Haircut - but this popped up on NewsInCyprus and thought given the short notice it was worth sharing: Cyprus calls for applications from those hit by 2013 Haircut The Cyprus Finance Ministry called on all those who were affected by the 2013 Cyprus...

Watch stunning first images of total solar eclipse

Watch the first stunning images of the total solar eclipse as it crosses the North American continent. The total eclipse became visible on the coast of Mexico at 11:07 local time (14:07 EDT; 19:07 BST), as crowds on the beach went wild. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-us-canada-68758521 Cheers S...

Re: Road Tax Renewal - no longer through JCCSmart

Road Tax renewal Does his mean that every January when I come to tax my Car, which is kept at the airport, I cannot use JCC and have to find another way to pay this tax from the UK. Anyone with a concrete idea on how this will work? Yes - it works as it says - instead of going to JCC Smart to pay y...

Re: Road Tax Renewal - no longer through JCCSmart

The point is, if the Min of Transport is in such chaos now, how could they handle all the registrations for new road tax cum next January? Dee It's an online service so no need for appointments/queuing regardless when renewed. Flooding aside, generally Govt. depts. have improved their online facili...

Or is it both?
It's Road Tax Renewal - as shown in the link - it's just the way it translates.

Re: Police meet to discuss criminalisation of false complaints

Think this may be misunderstood - the new bill under discussion is not related to false/fake complaints about businesses.

It relates to fake and/or malicious complaints made against police officers, which would become a criminal offence under the proposals.

Re: British husband to face murder charges after all

Whilst completely understanding the need to ensure that the law is followed and that we need to be mindful that the circumstance fit the charge. It would seem to me to be unusually cruel to offer a charge of manslaughter only to withdraw that after several weeks/months of discussion. Surely there mu...

Sorry, but the Kohinoor is a total red herring because it has nothing whatsoever to do with Harry and Meghan and is out of place in this thread. Really ??????? It was received by them, but as yet a week later, no response or answers to the questions. Will chase and update if we hear anything back. Che...

Re: Important: Receiving medicinal products from the UK in Cyprus?

The EU has made a ruling that may well affect ex pats in Cyprus, unfortunately in a negative way. I consider that to be unnecessary... The EU hasn't made a ruling - this was part of the withdrawal agreement negotiated by the EU & UK. As agreed during a transition period from 1 February to 31 De...

If parcels are not being inspected by the pharmacoligists, does this mean that any and every parcel from the UK is opened and its contents inspected? Have they got enough staff to inspect all parcels received from all non EU countries. Of which there are many --abroad? Who knows the answer? Dee Nor...

… And, in the meanwhile, the judges and lawyers are raking in his money. If he has a "nest egg", it will be worthless by the time he has paid these delaying parasites. Legal fees have been raised via crowdfunding - the defence asked for the delay as the charge has changed - "At a hea...

Re: Ben Fogle's Lost Worlds - Cyprus

Yes, its true that Greek Cypriots want a solution , but ONLY on their terms. Which as I understand it involve a return to the situation when the UN issued their resolution in a UN resolution based on the ceasefire lines circa 1974. From which they refuse to move forward. Sorry but that simply is no...

Britain is not America Brits think their country is much more diverse than it actually is, says Lionel Shriver in The Times. According to a new poll, they estimate that 20% of the country is black (it’s 3%); 15% is Muslim (actually 4%); 5% transgender (no more than 0.6% in reality); and 15% gay and...

I understand that Nigel Howarth is currently in communication with the BHC, as they are
discussing with the Interior Ministry, what/if any impact it will have on Brits going forward.
Will update if I hear anything new and confirmed.
