Re: Cypriot serial killer given seven life sentences

Wonder if this mans 7 life sentences will actually run con currently? If this is so, at a later date, will he able to apply for remission of his sentence because he is sorry for what he did and is a reformed character?
For the sake of women and children on this island I hope not.

Re: Not a good example from future PM

I wasn’t impressed by this man previously and I’m even less impressed by his reported behavior to his partner. He always seems arrogant, selfish sort of individual to me. I don’t see that he has charisma and I wonder why so many MP’s are voting for him? I prefer Jeremy Hunt who seems to have a more ...

Re: Four-days of mourning declared for Demetris Christofias

Well wonder what other posters think of 4 days mourning, and another public holiday on the 25th June? My main remembrances of this President are his apparent lack of knowledge about any of the events which led up to the disastrous explosion at Mari near the main power station, which in turn led to t...

Re: Cyprus has the highest prices in Europe for milk, cheese and eggs

I personally find Jeba’s post hard to believe. Germany has a huge land area and one would think sufficient pasture for its cows from spring into autumn. I can’t imagine a building that could hold 50,000 cows? In winter most animals would be inside barns and being fed hay etc. Most N. European countr...

A real ‘jobsworth’ at work here. Wonder if the private company he works for pay commission for each ticket that he issues to unsuspecting people?

Re: gated communities in Paphos

Yes Dominic, that’s wise advice. I live on a gated complex, so there are a few. If anyone interested in property purchase here wants more info, a good estate agent should be able to advise. Some gated complexes will inevitably be more expensive and possibly the maintenance costs will be higher.

Re: gated communities in Paphos

Hamski ,
You are on about crime and burglaries yet again! I have done my best to reassure you as have many others. What more should we say?

As I posted on this board yesterday you really need to come here to see the island of Cyprus for yourself and see if you really want to live here.

Re: tricky question?

Hamski, We don’t know how long you are thinking of coming here for or whether you are planning to rent or to buy. Bur if you follow Dominic’s advice you won’t go far wrong. The way many people do it is to initially rent an apartment somewhere in Paphos for anything up to 6 months. In that time you c...

Re: Cyprus’ beaches have the best water quality in the EU

All very good news! I suspect the exceptionally high quality of the beaches and the seas around Cyprus may have something to do with the exceptionally high rainfall which the island had last winter. In which case something really good happened as a result of the appalling long cold, wet and stormy w...

Re: Armou

Armou is a pleasant, quiet, hill side village about 3km from Paphos. You reach it from the roundabout at the end of the motorway. A good road, steep initially, leads there. On the way you pass through Konia. Armou is higher up and to the left hand side of the road, it is clearly signposted.

Re: Tourism season means increased crime

Yioula, you are right! Holiday makers and particularly those renting accommodation should take care of their possessions. Always make sure all windows are properly secure and all external doors are locked, before leaving the property, especially in the evening. Don’t forget to include bathroom windo...

Re: Wooden Fences

Where I lived previously, in Kamares, we were told fences at 2m. is max height. It’s always best to get agreement from your neighbours, before building a fence. If you erected the wooden fence in question, is it within the boundary of your lot? Do you have title deeds? If your answer to these questi...

Re: Spate of burglaries In Pahos & Peyia

There is more crime in Cyprus than when I first arrived nearly 20 yrs ago. In that time as in UK and most other countries things don’t stand still. Cyprus is drawing people to live here from all over the world. Even now crime figures are much lower here than in many other countries. It is very impor...

Re: Victims of Pissouri Landslide were "shocked into silence" at House committee meeting

Just typical, unfortunately, of a government which tends to slope shoulders (figuratively speaking) to avoid taking the blame when things go wrong. It’s so wrong when people are losing their homes through no fault of their own. Caveat emptor for all those foreigners who seek to put their life saving...

Re: Bank Holiday Monday

I checked with staff in both Kollios and Garden of Eden yesterday, both shops will be open on Monday at least in the morning. I guess that whether shops open or not must be left up to the Owners/Managers. But I think that this applies to Cypriot businesses. Not sure about businesses belonging to for...

A case as bad as this one deserves capitol punishment. Pity that it was abolished.
Life imprisonment may not last for life.

Re: Please recommend a notary for the writing of a will

Hamski, as has been said Cyprus is not the UK and has different laws regarding inheritance and inheritance tax and probate here is a long, drawn out procedure. It’s very sensible to get a good Cyprus solicitor to advise according to your own circumstances when drawing up your will. It could save you...

Re: Maronas Time Warp

Well with the Mosque, Maronas must have been a TC occupied farming village before 1974. Often these villages suffered worse damage as the village may have been attacked and damaged. The occupants may have been killed or fled. Thus some villages were abandoned. Later some GC farmers used empty houses...
