Re: Cordless vacuum cleaners ...

I still have a Miele ‘Cat and Dog’ vacuum cleaner purchased during the ‘90’s. It is still going strong, finally surviiving the years when we had 2 Labradors! It is still a powerful machine. Only trouble is that it is very heavy!

Re: New pub peyia

Yes, that was the place near Limnaria that I was referring to in one of my earlier posts. It seemed to fulfill a members need in the British Expat community. The new place is probably also rented from a Cypriot. Personally, I think that some of the comments on here about the new place are just unfor...

One method that also may work is to avoid all direct eye contact and proceed quietly as if you hadn’t heard anything.

Re: Car air-conditioning service

When Chris re opens, you can just go there and he will re charge your air con. I have taken my car to him. His work place is on the left , before the traffic lights on the road out of the Old Town which leads to Chloraka. It’s called Chris Cool. He can also service air con units in your house,

You could try the cobbler guy on Mr Chicken St? He does other garments, besides shoes, handbags etc. Maybe he would know where to find a replacement buckle and then fit it?

I will never agree with those who decry the Queen and the Royal family. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions of course. But who would prefer a president like Boris or Trump or Corbyn for that matter? The Queen and her successors are A-political, which doesn’t stop her advising PM’s when asked ...

Re: 39.7% of Cyprus covered by forests

Cyprus used to have extensive forests but historical records show that many trees were cut down by successive populations. In pre history trees were felled to stoke furnaces to produce charcoal which was used to smelt metal, firstly copper, then iron. The Romans apparently used a lot of Cyprus fores...

What a shame you feel like that. The RBL has absolutely nothing to do with the RAJ... I don’t know what your nationality is WHL, but the Cypriot have their own welfare facilities for their elderly EOKA members. Many of the British ex servicemen who have served their country,( and their families) are...

Re: Over 17,000 hunters set to head out on Sunday

I feel very sorry for the poor birds. Why it should be a valid reason to shoot migratory birds puzzles me. Also the behavior of some individual hunters is enough to give them all a bad name. I wish that some enterprising person would set up clay pigeon shooting sites...in Cyprus.

Re: New pub peyia

No Jimgward it isn’t. No uniforms are worn. There are a lot of British ex- service men who have retired in Cyprus as you say, which is why the British Legion is here. They have been here for years and previously have rented various buildings in Paphos as their headquarters for the club. No fuss was ...

Re: New pub peyia

The British Legion does a good job. Funds are needed for veterans from many different areas where conflicts have taken place. Soldiers and their families, some now in their twilight years badly need assistance since the British Govt is and always has been very poor in its support for ex servicemen. ...

Re: Flight delay compensation

HIC did you read the link which you quoted before you made your post in effect putting me down? I know enough about flight safety regs having had a long associating with things in the aviation world. Also common sense must also prevail even with this awful claim for compensation mentality. It’s fair...

Re: Flight delay compensation

I don’t see how anyone could claim for a delay to their flight which was caused by a bird strike. That is something which is caused by a bird in flight which gets sucked into the aircraft engine. This can cause serious damage to the internal workings of a jet engine. It is a flight safety hazard and...

It seems a no brainer really! If the course of the antibiotic is for 4 days only, just stay off the alcohol! It will probably work better and do your liver good!

WHL I am sure you must know what I meant. Yes, the one week campaigns do yield good results, mainly probably because they take people by surprise. But to be really effective the police should be on the look out for these violations of the law on a daily basis...then people might dtart to obey the la...

Hi HIC, As you may realise I am in the UK at present. The facts that emerge are that the UK Govt and also the media are not delivering the sort of accurate information to the public here about the facts and all the implications of an unplanned Brexit until the last few days. Just a drip feed, and th...

Harry where do you get your information from? Why should commercial flights to Cyprus cease in the event of a middle eastern war? Which hopefully no one wants. Commercial flights to Cyprus haven’t stopped during the Syrian or the Iraqi wars. Cyprus isn’t part of the middle east. HIC I was only relay...

I thought that in the event that this really happened, it would simply become part of Mersin, Turkey. Something which the north doesn’t want..

Re: An Electric Bus for Paphos..

The wind farms are known to be rather unreliable in Cyprus. We often don’t have enough wind to get and keep them going. Or else it is too windy and they need to be shut down before they sustain damage to their sails. It seems that an electric bus might be more reliable, providing it has a good batte...

Re: BHC at Paphos airport this Wednesday

Yes,the Governor of the Bank of England has also painted a gloomy financial picture of a no deal Brexit, which looks most likely to be the outcome. For those who want to leave the EU in October there is hardly any time left to do anything else. Also the EU’s present hard line attitude suggests they ...
