Re: Elgin marbles

'A plane at Heathrow' would have to be a hellish big one to transport the Elgin Marbles. I'm not in argument about who picks up the bill, my suggestion, your response, is not as I see it, an argument, as we, that includes you, just don't know. The state of my knickers is not a subject for debate eit...

Re: Elgin marbles

WHL Has anyone asked if the costs would be met by countries requesting the return of artifacts? If not, we do not know, thus no one has said that they would or wouldn't, so your question is irrelevant. It was merely my suggestion. That said, of course, anything that I write usually provokes some res...

Re: Elgin marbles

mark4007 Devil asked if Greece should have it's marbles back. I pointed out that as the UK law stands, we cannot return them permanently. I agree that we could 'loan' them to Greece, but at the end of the day, if we return, whether on loan or not, everything that we hold in our museums, to their pla...

Re: Elgin marbles

Oh my, the flood gates would open.

'That's my mummy', takes on a whole new meaning :o

Just as a matter of interest, Josef, how would you address it, or think that it should be addressed?

Re: Elgin marbles

At present, it's illegal for the museum to return the marbles. An act of 1963 I think. It seems that neither the conservative government, nor a Labour government of the future, should that happen, is willing to change the law. Does it matter anyway, to the majority of the British people? Most probab...

Re: What do you expats/residents do at Christmas?

Devil

My husband and I used to attend St Luke's church in Prodromi. We attended Communion Services and the Carol Service at Christmas. Strangely enough, we lived next door to the then vicar, the Rev Kay Watters.

However, we still enjoyed the more usual Christmas revelries.

Re: What do you expats/residents do at Christmas?

Belonging to a fairly large group of ex pat friends, usually we would all gather at one house, and each couple would take one course, or other necessity, as agreed. The same applied to Boxing day, but different house. It worked well, and it was just like a usual Christmas day in the UK. Of course th...

Re: Cameron Back

It seems to be a criticism of Matt Hancock. The world was dealing with the unknown. At first, we did not know how the infection was transmitted, and hospitals needed beds, what should they have done? I have to agree that it at times, it was one rule for us, and quite another for certain members of s...

Everyone makes mistakes, even you and I, so did Boris, but I was never so relieved and thankful, as when I was offered my vaccination. It's all very well to hold an inquest after the event, but Boris I believe, went with his advisers at the time, as he thought best. It's not a perfect world, and it'...

We just put a 'For Sale' sign outside our house. It sold, and we were in a quiet village in the hills.

WHL What do you mean IF. She did! She has never discussed her work during Covid, except how tired she became, but then, she's not a moaner, as some are. As far as unprepared goes, I think that I'm right in saying, that the speed with which the vaccine was developed in the UK was incredible, due to p...

WHL my daughter is also employed by the NHS, in a major hospital in the UK, she is responsible for the running of the clinic in the department where she is employed, she regularly confers with consultants on cases, and she has many years experience. She worked through Covid too, I wonder if she know...
