Re: Elgin marbles

I must add that the Acropolis museum is superb and a fitting place for the marbles. I always thought they should remain in the UK but after visiting the museum I felt they should be returned. If you haven’t been - I highly recommend a visit

Re: Secure delivery of letter to the UK

Very straightforward. Passport in normal envelope, take to post office, normal recorded delivery/registered post (costs a couple of euros). I’ve done this many times for family passports and it’s never failed to arrived. Your new passport will be returned by DHL automatically.

Re: Jumbo's refunds

There is a difference between returning something because it doesn’t fit and for a defective product. If the product is defective, the policy may be different. If the size is incorrect - it’s Ok with me for a store not to give a cash refund as it would be a buyer’s error. You will know now for next ...

Ukrainian refugees, african asylum seekers etc, rich russians getting out to avoid call up now. Absolutely spot on. Hundreds of Ukrainian refugee families and ...

Re: Eligible for GESY?

You will qualify once you receive permanent residency status or state retirement (S1). You can apply for permanent residency status after 5 years of continuous extensions to temporary residence permits. Re: Domicile in Cyprus

But I don’t believe you need citizenship to become domiciled in Cyprus. Regarding Cyprus Defence Tax, if you have been tax resident in Cyprus for at least 17 out of the last 20 years prior to the tax year in question, you will be deemed to be domiciled in Cyprus for the purposes of the SDC Law. Re: UK tourists to pay Cyprus visa waiver fee

Yes UK visitors are affected. Lots of info here. It’s quite straight forward, it lasts for 3 years and was formulated back in 2016 to help combat terrorism. Only reason UK citizens now need it is because they are no longer in the EU. It’s not just for UK citizens, it’s for most countries around the ...

Tsada is on the official list of qualifying villages. It says 620m for the height. Maybe that’s an average.

Re: Getting harder to retire here

I also agree with Steve as I believe these are the routes for a residency permit (immediate permanent residency). There is still the existing option of an extension to a temporary residence visa for which you can rent or buy (any value) and prove a regular income to support yourself. Retirees or not...

Better to get someone like John who is used to doing this. If it’s on a roof, they need to bring them down carefully - usually with straps. I’ve seen a few very badly cut leaving a problem on the roof and scrapes all down the side of the building!

PREMIUM BONDS

Just received a letter from NS&I to say that following Brexit and the closure of many bank accounts, I can no longer hold my premium bonds (after more than 50 years) because it is conditional on having a UK bank account. I feel this is maybe my final tie with the UK (apart from family) and a pre...

Lovely film. I must say, all three of my children - in their 20s and 30’s absolutely love this new building and are very excited and interested about similar modernisation and the plans for Paphos. I began thinking that even if I didn’t like the idea of high rises, the young people who will be aroun...
