Join us at Chakra Gallery Paphos for a practical series of workshops designed to equip anyone with an interest in journalism with the tools to get that all-important byline in the local and national Press.

15 Euros per lesson
Every Tuesday for 5 weeks.

Workshops for teenagers also available.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Learn where to look for news, who to speak to, how to build stories and present them as must-read articles.

Once the course is complete, participating students will be invited to enrol in the Chakra Reporters’ Club. Meeting once a week, the club will act as a news hub whereby students can discuss any stories they might be working on, seek advice or have their work professionally edited, ready for submission to local and national newspapers.

Week One:
a) News v Information;
b) The six basic elements of all news reports;
c) How a newsroom operates.

Week Two:
a) Contacts and Sources;
b) Learning to think and act like a journalist;
c) Researching stories.

Week Three:
a) Principles of Journalism (verification and objectivity);
b) Interview techniques;
c) Reporting accurately.

Week Four:
a) Principles of Journalism continued (originality, completeness, transparency, fairness);
b) Different disciplines in print journalism (news, investigative journalism and human interest).

Week Five:
a) Principles of Journalism continued (restraint, humanity, accountability and empowerment);
b) Why journalism matters.

All lessons will include a number of exercises so bring a notepad and a pen!

News Team International in Birmingham (reporter, deputy news editor); The Sun in London (reporter); News of the World in London (senior reporter, subeditor, features editor and columnist), Sada-e-Azadi in Afghanistan (civilian print editor); Kabul Scene Magazine (editor); and Gulf Times in Qatar (deputy editor).
